Problems Learning the Idle / Initial Setup

I just stuck in a powerfc today and did the whole Initialize all Data to reset it to base map and all... I turned the bleed screw 1/2 turn and started the car.

The car's idle was really rough and everything was shaking, not to mention a TON of smoke was coming out. I kept at it and followed the FAQ, did the defrost then AC etc. but it didn't improve by much... and the whole time smoke kept pouring out

The also weird problem is when I try to rev it, it won't rev past 2k like its limitted there... can any one help?

Also, the lights in the car are not stable... they flicker and dim with the idle

Thanks!

Based on the total engine setup information presented, bad mechanic.
Next would be map sensor problem.

Engine is stock with stock injectors, which is why I'm just trying to run the base map

Has intake and downpipe and catback, but nothing major... still stock sequential

I'll give the car a try again today, is it suppose to smoke so much?

Well it looks the rev problem is fixed but the idle still isn't that great... it's kind of smooth but the car shakes

The engine also sounds different when you rev it and it seems to backfire a lot louder now

The main problem is all the smoke it makes, the car almost filled up my entire neighborhood with smoke and it didn't get too much better when the car warmed up either

Does it still have the airpump? Running terribly rich and not reving well is normally a sign of the map sensor not connected to the UIM.

Or maybe the ECU grounds are not grounded.

Could you give me more information about this map sensor? I don't see how it could've gotten unplugged from the UIM since the car was running well before all this... Is it near the Elbow by anychance because I did take that off?

For the ECU grounds, I move it and grounded it to the bottom bracket that holds the ECU

My car was running perfectly before all this... even with the constant smoking and strange reving I took it out on a short test drive. the car sounds really different and has absolutely no power. I put the stock ECU back on and the car still smokes and shakes at idle

Time to check your plugs and plug wiring.
Way past time to study section F of the FSM.

This really sounds like the map sensor is disconected or not working.

Check that the sensor is connected correctly to the UIM.
You can also see if you got any movement on the boost on your commander.

I just put one in about a week and a half ago and it was doing something very similar to this, minus the smoke. Turned out to be the TPS connector was loose. Have you checked the sensor status page? My TPA1 & TPA2 were showing around 4.9 vdc until I reseated the TPS connector.

I talked to Farkel about this yesterday and he said he accidentally knocked off the map sensor hose. I can take a pic of what he's talking about if you need.
