PowerFC Commander in the Summer heat

I drove to work today and just went out at lunch to open the windows and roof, and I noticed that my PowerFC Commander's screen was all garbled when it turned on. It's pretty damn hot in there and the unit itself was very hot, has this happened to anyone before?

I draped a microfiber cloth over it for now, but I'm thinking of pulling it off the mount and putting it on the floor or something, just so it's out of the sun.

EDIT: Just checked again, it works fine now after putting the cloth over it. I still yanked it from the mount and put it in the shade anyway. Guess I'll make that a regular task on real hot and sunny days.

Apex'i has released a new commander which supposedly won't have these problems.

Any more information on what exactly a "New Type Organic EL Commander" is? Particularly if it has any better day-time contrast?
