Power FC Problem...

Just installed a used powerFC that was said to be pre tuned on another FD for my similar mods... Car wont start and stay running, can the PFC be reset without commander... Or does it just need to go through the learning process?

You need a Commander or a Datalogit to initialize the PFC. You can't go through the learning process without first initializing it.

Will any PFC commander do, or does it need to somehow match the serial # on back of the ECU I have in the car now...

Thanks...

There are three versions of the Commander. If your PowerFC Serial number starts with FD3S4 then you need one of the two newer ones. The original one that came with the black box PFC will not work.

Ok so I reset the PowerFC back to the base map. Started to do the idle learning process and made it to step 3 with the defroster ON, as I was letting it sit at idle for 10 minutes I ran inside real quick to answer the house phone. By the time I came back outside (about a minute later) the engine was shut off. When I went to start it back up it wouldn't start but sounded like it was going to. I'm letting it sit overnight and will try starting it again tomorrow after work.

Now I'm assuming I need to start the idle learning process over?... But do I also need reset the PowerFC back to base map again or will that still be the same?

Thanks guys!!

ok so I changed the spark plugs and still no luck.... I re-did the idle learning process the whole way through and it was idling good at 900rpms. So I tried taking it around the block to see how it drove. As soon as I touched the gas in reverse the idle started to surge... Backed it out of the driveway and it rode extremly slugish... Barely made it up a not very steep hill in 1st gear... drove it around the block (barely) and as soon as I got into the driveway and put it in neutral it idled real low and died. Now it wont start back up again... doing the same thing as before... Can ANYONE close help me out!!! I don't want to have to tow it somewhere and spend an arm and a leg to have a shop "look" at it.. Just to tell me they can't fix it.

Thanks to all.

get yourself a datalogit. it is too difficult to try figure out what setting you have incorrect that are not letting your car run/idle. also post your mods, specifically if you are single turbo, injectors and wheather or not you are running a stock map sensor or three bar GM sensor. all of these have specific values that the pfc reads. if you are trying to run your car with a stock map and have upgrades it will not run!

It needs throttlebody adjustment and idle tuning most likely, assuming there are no mechanical issues.

I contacted Kevin Landers at Rotary Resurrection. Emailed him describing what the car was doing, waiting to hear back to see if he can hopfully fix it. Thanks.
