Porting/Tming ? and a couple other ?s

I have whats been described to me as a racing port. I was told it was as large a port as possible without going into the passages.

From what Ive read I need to retard the timing and was wondering if this map was safe. http://opus.bloomcounty.org/~patrick...sh007&SCALE=US

Also the redlight on my HKS twinpower is faint. Should the light be a strong light or just barely lit?

I recently installed a new motor along with a light flywheel and 6 puck clutch along with poly motor mounts. I noticied that I now feel a "heavy" vibration feeling that feels like its coming from where the tranny meets the engine. I only notice it when in neutral and slightly rev the engine. Driving 55 I didn't notice any vibration.

Some help would be great thanks

I would stay away from that split table. I heard its best not to run any split.

Read, read, read, and then read some more! I'm no expert but for your setup I believe you have too much advance and you NEVER EVER want negative split anywhere. Many will argue what the splilt should be. You'll hear anywhere from 0 everywhere to 15 everywhere to various sliding scales in between the two. Chuck Westbrook (member cewrx7r1) is as knowledgeable as any and actually sells a very helpful guide on all of this at a reasonable price. Good luck.

^I have read and read. I think I have his guide also and didnt find near as helpful as wargasms.

Anyone have a safe timing map that they ahve used for a ported motor? Im stuck not being able to run boost until I get one.

For future reference I will update this thread when I get a map so someone doesnt have to go thru this like me.

That map is not for a large street port engine. I consider it too hot even for my old very mild street port engine when I ran non-seq turbos. Even though it has a few cells with negative split, the only one that is dangerous is at P14,N15.

Look at Houston2, Suganuma, and Tim Benton; that is IGL.
Then look at their SPLIt, all bad.
Then look at mine; I was way ahead of the curve on doing proper split. I no longer run those 0 in the upper right hand, now they are all 3.

But for a large port, I would run 10 split not my 8.

I was looking at yours but was unsure of your engine type. I will copy your timing maps and make the changes you suggest.

If I can't get it correct how much for you to make me a safe timing map?

These (IGL) are a decent place to start from:
"Houston2, Suganuma, and Tim Benton" They are variations of the BASE MOD map on the same site. But remove timing from N16 - N20 so that N20 ends up around 15-17.
