plugging the Datalogit into a damn laptop

ok, wtf. does anyones modern laptop have a 9 pin serial plug or is it just mine (dell)?

i have 2 usb plugs, 1 15 pin serial (external monitor), 1 s-vid. that's it.

i didn't see any 9 pin serial-to-usb adapters at comp usa. wtf do i do here with my new 300$ paper weight?

You may not have found one at Comp USA, but they do exist. I use the serial connection on my laptop's base station, so I can't recommend a particular brand. Maybe someone will chime in with a good one to buy.

i use a belkin but i have had problems with windows crashing while using it. the comp. blames this on the adapter but i haven't been able find out what exactly is going on yet. also when you get an adapter pay attention to which com port it in stalls as. you will have to switch to this com port in the datloggit settings or it won't work.

PS. Once you get the USB to serial adaptor working there is a sequence to how these things come up.

First start the datalogit program with the adaptor connected to the datalogit and laptop.

Then turn the key one in the car.

Then hit the reads botton on the datalogit software.

You should be able to see your map then or the default map. This was my issues after I spent much time getting the correct firmware for the adaptor. Others may not have to do it this way, but I do every time. Otherwise I get an error connection message.

Good Luck.

if you decide it is too much of a hassle, i would be more than happy to take the datalogit off your hands for ya ..!

But if you want a local solution you dont have to pay shipping for, this might work:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....2&type=product

if you have any best buy stores near you, that is..

hope things work out!
