Please post your graph, here's mine - I'm learning to tune....hopefully!

OK I'm making an attempt to learn how to tune. I hope I've got all my ducks in a row... I've got the PFC and datalogit (obviously) and an LM-1 with the add on gauge. I have yet to hook up my wideband to the datalogit but I'm planning on attempting it in the next couple of days. For now I just watch the ghost tracer with one eye, the wideband gauge with the other, and pray to God I'm still in my lane. I'm only trying to get my drivability better right now. So far I've accomplished that and still stayed safe according to the wideband. Hopefully once I learn to log runs and stuff I'll be able to do more. I just can't seem to find that Tuning for Idiots written with southern slang book...lol

I would like others to cut and paste their BaseMap into Excel and chart it like mine pictured below just so I can see what everybody else's charts look like. I've included the before and after charts to show the changes I made. Overall I'm real pleased with the way the car cruises now. Also please be prepared for a ton more questions on here and on the datalogit group as I gain further knowledge.

I'm sure everyone knows how but just in case...

To get the charts I have below:
Cut and paste map into Excel.
Highlight all the data.
Click on ChartWizard
Chart type: Surface
Chart sub-type: 3-D surface

Any and all comments welcome! Also if there is a better chart to use, please tell me. I'm just stumbling on this stuff as I find it. I'd also like to thank David Garfinkle for spending a whole night driving around with me and showing me all sorts of stuff that I had no clue about before. If only I would have taken better notes...

Looking a fuel map graphs in my opinion is useless. I get more out of looking at the 20X20 matric.

The fuel map is not that a good indication of anything without also listing:
(1) total injector flow capacity
(2) idle fuel pressure
(3) 0 psi fuel pressure
(4) boost fuel pressure ratio

I didn't even think about adding that information. I was just shocked to see the inconsistencies when I graphed my first map. It helped me to use it as a reference when I was staring at the matrix and I was wondering if mine still looked worse than other people's fuel maps.

Here's my info:

1) 2 x 550's & 2 x 1300's
2) FP @ idle ~ 36psi (15" of vacuum)
3) FP @ 0psi ~ 42psi / FP @ 12psi ~ 52psi / FP @ 15psi ~ 57psi
4) Boost FP ratio ~ roughly 1psi increase = 1psi increase in FP

My fuel pressure does spike to around 60psi for a second before dropping and holding at 57psi. Also my FP numbers are my best estimates, my FP gauge only has marks every 2.5psi.

Here is my 20x20 matrix.

Looking at P row 17-19, they all follow the same basic curve without any out of place cells. They show that your engine makes max torque at N16 or 6400rpm.
When I graphed my map, it looked similar to yours in shape.

The only area with different curves than mine is idle to cruise. I make mine lean as posible without stumbling. My engine needs richer AFRs between idle and low speed cruising.

This causes my idle area inj times to increase up above 800rpm to about 1600rpm then starts dropping off out to about 2400rpm then starts increasing the rest of the way.

Thus my AFRS go something like this.

13.8 - 14.5 - 15 - 16------------------>

The 8.5lb flywheel may also play part to this weirdness for drivability at low rpms.

yeah after looking at the mazda factory A/F settings, I figured I was running a tad rich. I only see 13's once. Most of mine are 11's & 12's at cruising speeds. I'm going to work on getting my LM-1 to log and then use that tuning excel sheet and see if I can't lean it out a little. Hopefully I'll be able to take a little out at a consistant rate. Thanks for your help!
