In normal driving my knock count is around 15-30. I set the knock warning to 60 but somehow engine check light doesn't blink, I am suspecting there is no bulb behind that warning. I saw 79 the other day at wot, should I be worried?

I seem to recall the light is not hooked up on North American FDs. You can run a wire from the correct PFC pin to a particular pin on the load computer (a little module above the ECU behind the passenger kick panel) to make the check engine light come on. I think there is a thread on doing this, maybe by Dale. I did this and it does flash when you hit the thresholds.

Kind of a blast from the past reading this thread. This was back before my first rebuild. Now I just finished rebuild #4 (a combination of bad luck and a few learning on the job mistakes). I know way more about working on my FD than I ever imagined I would seven years ago! I don't know why I still love this thing. I am a rotor head.

How to fix your check engine line to alert was referred to earlier in this thread:

OK looks like Dale's PDF is no longer hosted where he linked to. Here is one out there on the net:

DaleClark: Big thanks for your writeup on hooking up the warning light to the CEL! The biggest difficulty was extracting the pin from the connector -- I ended up getting a connector from a 1991 RX-7 in the junkyard and cut it apart to get the pin. Unfortunately, this pin was the narrow kind (need a wider one to fit the spot you indicated). However, I jammed a pick into the pin to widen it and it seems to have worked.

rxcited2: Just wanted to say thanks for the idea of turning off the knock sensor reading to disable the constant flashing. My car runs smoothly yet I will see >30 knock as I rev up to 3k rpm in 1st gear. When I shift gears, it will spike up to >75. Could be a multitude of things causing this but for the time being I can turn off the flashing when I go get this baby smogged. One thing at a time.. On a separate note, do you still live up in the Bay Area?
