PFC timing issues and advancing timing vs knock numbers

AS I posted before, my knock number is in the mid 20's at WOT in 4th gear. Since 60 is the number the manual says is safe, I advanced the timing 1 degree in the cells I am at at WOT. After doing so, my number number rose to a high of 31 in those cells. After repeated runs, and 31 being the highest, I again advanced it 1 more degree. Knock number rose to 45. I'll leave it alone for now since I don't want to have bad luck and buy some bad gas in the future and knock rears its butt ugly head. As far as feeling the differnce, the car SEEM a bit faster or more ready to go when I go full throttle, although I doubt my butt dyno could feel the extra HP I might have gained. I am going back to the dyno (with a wideband hooked up this time as well) and see what it amounted to.

Tim, what's up.

I nee to go to Dyno really bad, next time you go give me a heads up, I'll go with you. Do you go to Dyno labs, or someplace in you locale?

WHen I go I am going to run the XS timming maps, then switch to PFC stock ones to see the difference. THen we will know for sure. I suspect I need to reatrd timing to get more power, but seeing as my engine is not ported, probably won't require much changing.

Phil,

What number are you seeing for knock after a wot run? Normally you tend to lose HP if you retard timing since the mixture isn't lit off as early so the combustion might not be complete. I'm going to try to go next thurdays to Engineered Performance if I can get another 02 sensor bund welded into my downpipe in time. If I can"t get that done, I'll just head to Dynolabs near the big chicken and run it just for fun.

I know you guys are way ahead of me in all of this, but...I have heard that the knock sensor is really unreliable. I don't know if I would use it to tune.

they are unreliable from what I haev heard. I get in low 30s for WOT runs in 4th. it jumps during transition though sometimes to 45.

Tim, advnacing timing will only give you more power if the timing is too retarded, if timing is too advanced, retarding it will give you more. Assume that timing is correct for stock setup, then as you add more mods, ie street port, more exhaust, intake, etc. then you need to reatrd it to keep correct timing and highest power.

Thursday night I am tied up with classes, what about the weekend?
