PFC and boostreading

I have a PFC installed on my nearly stock FD (HKS filters) and now I want to put on a DP and in the near future CB and HF cat (Bonez).

Is the PFC reading quick enough to notice boost spikes as like the electrical gauges. or is the sensor to slow like the mech gauges?

Thx

First off lets get something out of the way...mechanical gauges are not measurably slower than electrical gauges.

To answer your question the PFC boost reading updates fast enough to catch most any spike. Problem is with a digital reading like that its practically impossible to see rate of change...so it's going to be more difficult to catch a boost spike as its occuring.

Try using the peak hold feature in monitor mode, the peak hold value will show the boost spike immediately and even if you pull out of the throttle you will see how high the spike was. I used this feature constantly for monitoring boost, knock, etc even during daily driving.

The graph works well too but you have to freeze the screen manually to review the data.

The manual will tell you everything you need to know. It's on this forum in case you didn't get a copy with your PFC...

Yep, I agree. I used to exclusively use the peak holds, but they were never very useful to me for knock since frequenly knock can just be a quick peak somewhere meaningless, such as on a shift. I'm now addicted to monitoring boost vs knock and leaving it on the graph mode. Quickly shows at a glance if you get any nasty knock during hard boost, and there's usually enough history I can glance down at it after winding out 1st and 2nd and the data's still there. And as an added benefit you can see your boost curve to check how well the boost controller's doing.
