no LED, what now?

so, i have a datalogit that has been sitting in my garage for the last year. i used it ONCE right when i got it. then it sat in its box for a year. i pulled it out to set it up again, since i will be needing it now that my car is running. i find out, however, that i have no LED lighting up on my datalogit, and therefore no way to communicate with the laptop. is there anything i can do? im a little upset that my basically brand new $350 box of plastic may now be useless. anyone have any ideas? i would hate to spend that kind of money again, on something that may be so very fragile...

open it up and check that wires are soldered to circuit board, specifically the brown wire

Are you saying that the Datalogic red power light is not coming on when it is plugged into the PFC and the ignition is turned on?
And that your laptop DL software does not commuicate with the DL?

If the DL is not on, it can not communicate with yor laptop.
Are you sure the PFC is getting power from the battery when the ignition is turned on?

DLs are very robust, so I doubt it is bad.

i have opened it up, and checked all solder joints (to the best of my ability) and checked continuity with a multimeter of the wires. no luck there.

well, if i plug only the commander in to the pfc, it works fine.
if i plug the datalogit into the pfc, no red LED.
if i plug the commander into the datalogit, and the datalogit into the pfc, i get data on the commander for 5-60 seconds, then the screen freezes, but stays lit up.
the car runs and drives fine, and all of this is happening when the pfc has 12 volts.

With the DL plugged into a turned on PFC, wiggle the DL to PFC cable.
See if the light blinks.
Make sure the PFC ground wires are grounded.

and idea which wire is normally brown? which pin does it go to?

Since my 1999 DL is 12 years old and has been used to tune many cars, I had to replace the cable to the PFC.
The consatnt bending of the cable broke one of the wires.
Could not find a 5 pin din at the time so modified a 6 pin DIN. It is still working.

Hard to believe that your new DL went bad just sitting in a box.

Try another DL from a friend.

well, i have continuity through all the wires, so i dont think that is the problem.
and, i dont think it is the pfc itself, since the commander works just fine off of it.
also, i dont have any friends with datalogits.
any ideas if my datalogit could be fixed if it is in fact defective?
