New PFC Installed, question

Well, finished installing my new (to me) PFC (thanks to Mannykiller for a great deal!). I've removed the four pins that the FAQ talks about, and also had to do the A/C relay fix (worked ok on fan speed 1, but 2,3 and 4 weren't stable, kept turning on/off etc).

Anyway, I reset the PFC to factory defaults, disabled o2 feedback, and started the car, started first crank! Let the car learn the idle and then took it for a drive. Everything seems really good so far.

A few quick questions:

I initially bought the PFC to troubleshoot a rough cold-start and generally rich running issue (with the stock ecu). The first thing I did was the sensor check and according to the commander, all were good. Oddly, the car now starts and idles cold PERFECTLY... Any ideas why the car would start and cold idle so much better with the PFC than the stock ECU???

Second, the car feels quite a bit quicker!! I noticed on the boost guage that it also seems to build full boost much quicker than stock, does this sound normal??? My car also had a 3k hesitation when cold which is now gone)

Also, love the fact that the car runs *much* cooler than with the stock ECU, looks like the fans turn on quite a bit sooner than stock.

BTW, car is stock (rebuilt about 800miles ago), with a JDM DP, high flow cat, and RB dual catback.

Justin

The PFC fixes a lot of issues that Mazda did not want to fix.

yep, the stock ECU tends to limit outputs quite a bit, some problems lie inside the ECU itself that you otherwise never would have figured out.

on more than a few occasions no CELs popped up and cars ran like ***, a simple ECU swap and 10 minutes later the cars ran just fine.

I can't say from firsthand experience, but I bet Mazda fixed the problems on the 96-98 series 7 cars. Now you can go to the dealer and get the ECU reflashed if there's a problem, but in the old days they couldn't do that.
