max knock
All,
i'm playing around with my ignition timing...
after all the researches, i found out that ported motors needs to be retarded a few notch on the boost region.
all the while i was running a 2000 base mod map. with a little tweaking...
my knock levels are below 40.... does it mean that i can continue to run the motor ?
then later i tried retarding a few notch like most of them did...realise i loses some power.. the car doesn't push as hard as previous map...
let me know your ideas... run back the base mod map or safer to run a few notch retarded ?

I believe the manual says knock up to 60 is OK, but I tune to below 30 in cold weather.
Less timing does mean less power if your timing was already maximised. If it was too advanced, then power would increase.
You have to determine what is you knock value baseline is. If you have a noisy engine and knock is in the 20s at low boost or low revs(below 4000rpm) on high boost, then a knock value of 20 can may be regarded as being "0". Thus a range of 40 - 60 should be safe.
This is up to you to determine what is really knock and what is only noise.
You could try running some race gas at the original timing and see if the knock decreases or not. If it stays the same, then most likely it is noise.

here's the picture of my log run with my old map which is quite advanced...
i got back all my power... and i retard a little on the row 16 and 17 to prevent high knocks...
amazingly... on cruise vacuum, medium RPM... i got knock level at 30... but i think it's no issue here.
