Lets try this again

Ok, well about a month ago I purchased the power fc w/commander and also got a downpipe. I installed the power fc then the next day i installed the downpipe. I had an intake and cat back also at the time. Well the same day i had the downpipe on and actually the first drive i got to take with it on the engine blew somehow. I had not adjusted anything on the power fc. And at the time that i had noticed that the car was running rough i was pulling in someones driveway. Anyway I have no idea what caused the engine to blow it was the second one and only had about 20,000 miles on it. My car has been in the shop for the better part of this last month getting a new engine in it and I get the car back on friday. My dilema is i dont know what to do now. I want to put the power fc back on the car but i dont want to blow another engine. I know before it blew that i was running very very rich and my o2 was 1.XX something. How many people are running the base maps completely untuned? The whole reason i got the ecu was to prevent my car from overboosting b/c of the downpipe, and now i am not sure if it was actually causing the blown engine. From everything that i have read I havent heard of anyone blowing there engine w/ the base maps. Basiclly anyone that has some suggestions on what i can do would greatly be appreciated. Also when the pfc was in the car for that 2 day period i did cut the wires that were supposed to be cut. Well when i put the stock ecu back in i respliced the wires back together. What would happen if i hooked the pfc up without cutting the wires? please help!!! i cant afford a 4th engine

you must cut the wires for the PowerFC, I don;t know what would happen i fyou didn;t but what is the point. You should install the PFC after all mods so it can learn to them. that could have been the rough idle you experienced. I am running base maps with my mods with no problems. they are set up for intake and exhaust, if you have a ported mortor that is a differnet story.

The rough idle was the blown motor. I am running intake exhaust and downpipe. What mods are you running KZ1?

You can kill an engine from running too rich, too. Maybe that's what happened...

So can i get some kinda agreement on this from everyone that it was possibly a fluke that my engine blew the same time my pfc was installed. Again it blows my mind how it happend. I dont plan on modding the car much more, maybe an intercooler upgrade sometime down the road. I just want to be safe with what i have and not have to worry about this happening again. So you all think i will be fine with the base maps and my mods. I will probably adjust the second boost setting to at or a little below 12psi.

I saw an O2 reading of 1.07 tonight while cruising. [sarcasm]Hhmm, wonder if mine's running rich.[/sarcasm]
