Knock sensor hammer test

Has anyone with a PFC performed the Knock sensor test that is described in the service manual for the stock ecu? That is has anyone lightly struck the engine hanger with a hammer and logged or witnessed any knock readings on the commander?

I have attempted to do this with the engine off and key on and my knock readings did not exceed one. I have also tried this with the car idling with no effect either.

I am getting readings but I suspect they are erroneous. I have recorded readings of 80-90 around 2,600-3,000 rpms with the car in neutral.

I would appreciate if someone would perform this test to verify that the knock readings should jump with the PFC installed.

thanks for any help

If my freaking PFC and commander are not acting up I would definitely like to do the test,

Iit seems Chuck and I have the same results. It does baffle me a bit. If it can't detect a hammer hit, you would think it would not be able to indicate detonation or quite a few other noise sources as well.

i did a thread like 2 weeks ago discussing my peak knock on my commanger was 149. at 5th gear WOT, on my commander the knock meter it all the way if not fluttering. Chuck from rotary extreme was revving my motor at idle and said that he noticed my knock readings were a little high. He just gave me a few things that would make it go so high. As for the test, i havent tried it myself, but it seems simple so ill try it tomorrow haha.

I have readings of near 80s when I rev in neutral from the 2,5xx-3,xx range. While driving they are the same magnitude for those rpms and are 30-70 under boost, with an occasional spike around 5,1xx. I looked at logs from my previous FD and they had a similar spike around that rpm. I haven't replaced my plug wires; they have less than 20k miles on them. I have checked the wires to ensure that they are properly connected to the coils. I have attempted to shield the knock sensor wire so it would not pick up any noise from the alternator. I have removed the alternator from the engine bay and ran the engine. I also disconnected the air pump, since it is active in that range. Finally I replaced the knock sensor and as a result of all this my readings are still the same. I guess I could just splice the wiring near the ecu and connect the knock sensor wire at that point avoiding any induced noise in the engine bay. However I am reluctant to cut any of my wiring. Heck I didn't even cut the wires to install the PFC; I simply disconnected the appropriate solenoid connectors.

Chuck, just to sum it up,

Is it okay to be this way?
If no high knock number(10-40) shows up during tuning with full boost, and then during normal driving or even race the peak may say something like 150 or 190.

Whoa...those are some seriously high knock readings! I usually get knock readings between 0 and 30.
