FYI: Apexi PFC update

I ordered an Apexi PFC from a company in Japan about a month ago. After e-mailing them about the delay in shipping it, I got this reply:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Adam,

You have to understand that Apexi was under bankruptcy protection and
just this past week was bought by another firm and began production
just this week. As for PFCs right now they are very hard to get and
you aren't the only one waiting. I don't know what else to tell you
other than it is beyond our control and it also states on the website
that Apexi parts are very hard to get at the moment. As they say you
can't get blood from a stone. Please hang in there and as soon as it
becomes available we will send it out.

Best regards,

Todd

I ordered it there because I am a cheap bastard. $740 shipped (including commander). I expected a 3 week delay in getting it. Seemed like a good deal, as I am not in a big hurry.

I don't know anything about the "ebay" vendor. I bought it here: http://www.nengun.com/

I waited probably 2.5 months for the FDnewbie group buy on brand new PFC's imported. From what I can see, you have three options:

buy brand new, recently manufactured units and wait a month or more

buy a brand new unit that has been in stock in the U.S. and pay more

buy used, though you may not even get a commander with it and still pay $700, maybe more

Shame that they didn't take the initiative to contact YOU, but it's the same story from last winter. I went through the eBay seller for about the same price and got exactly the same story: Apexera, the parent company, is under bankruptcy protection and is undergoing corporate restructuring. Apexi used to ship every week and now it's down to every month. Backorders. Apologies.

Sounds par for the course.

Unfortunately there has been a delay in supplying your order, the shipment estimate has been updated and we'll update your order when we have further information. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Thankyou, your payment has been received, we are now processing your order.

They really shouldn't have said they could deliver in 3 weeks when they have no idea when they can deliver.

the pessimist in me thinks the following:

it could just be that they are waiting for the 30 days you have to complain about them before they totally forget about your order and you no longer have the ability to leave negative feedback or anything along those lines.

hopefully not the case.
