Commander holder

Try www.rx7.com.

They have a holder for $40, which is a lot for a bent piece of metal, but it does the job. The holder screws into the left side of the inside of the glove compartment. The holder comes with two holes for anchoring screws. I drilled 4 more holes into the metal holder and then painted the tops of the screws flat black to keep the inside looking clean. It holds the Commander nicely and is easy to reference. Plus it doesn't glow in your face when you're driving.

Items to monitor depend on the condition of your car. If you haven't made any adjustments to the stock cooling system, such as a larger radiator or different front end, water temp may be one of the parameters you want to have on. Boost level will tell you if the turbos are pushing what they should and will also let you know if you're boost creeping. If you're tuned your engine, the knock sensor will tell you how well you did. You can safe view two parameters at a time while driving, maybe four, but not eight while driving.

you could just buy a cell phone holder that hooks up to like the air vent and maybe cut it up a bit to fit.

Great idea.

That would be a fabulous idea if someone was aiming for the broke look in their RX7. A cut up, ghetto-rigged cell phone holder trying desperately to hold a $300.00 Commander with a scratched-up display would inspire so much style jealousy among the other Commander owners and impress the ladies with its cost-cutting engineuity. The raw look would be completed by all the beautiful scratches on the display screen that complement all the scratches on the expensive interior trim from all the times it fell out of the phone holder.

A sliced cell phone holder ...used to hold a $300.00 Commander in an RX7.

That's a good one. Any pics ??

BTW - The referenced holders only work on 1993 models. The 94 and later models have a different glove box, so you can't use these holder without some sort of modification. I would be interested to see how people with 94 and 95 models mount their commanders.

Just because it's inexpensive doesn't mean it's inneffective

WRONG.

My Commander holder is a "hacked" up cell phone holder epoxied to the cig lighter (cheapo parts store one, not my OEM one). This places the Commander in the perfect position for adjustment and viewing. It is very stable and has held up through several auto-x and a dozen track days. It looks very subtle and is essentially an invisible mod.

And trust me, anyone in the 3rd gen section knows I'm not one for ghetto or cheap mods...and I hate cluttering up my interior.

Thanks... to get it out, i'd have to undo the two allen screws on the piece that holds it in. I never really take it out.
