The other night i notice my commander backlight had gone out. I hadnt hit it hard or kicked and cables, jsut went by itself. Has this happened to anyone else? Any idea of how to fix?

Sometimes mine goes out if it's not making a good conection while plugged into the datalogit. For the longest I thought that the light just didn't work while plugged into the datalogit but then one day I pushed harder than usual and the light came on. All that time I just didn't have it plugged in tight enough. It might have just vibrated out just a hair.
It's worth a try...
