Boost Controller Needed

I currently have the PFC and Apexi boost controller kit fitted to my FD with a XS T04S turbo kit.

The problem I have is that I cannot control boost at all!!!

I am thinking about fitting a Profec B, but would like to know of any other options.

Thanks
Fish

Something's hooked up wrong then, or not working properly. The boost control kit works fine.. I have the boost control kit and it keeps my boost wherever I set it to. (T04S)

With the wastegate lines disconnected will the wastegate keep the boost held at spring pressure? (do you know how heavy the spring is?)

OK, attached is a picture of how I have setup the pipe work from the controller to the wastegate.

But not much luck with that way. I dont know what spring is fitted, but have not tried via just the spring, so will give it a go.

Thanks

The diagram's correct. Notice that the numbers pointing to the lines (6--> or 8-6-8) refer to recommended line sizes, in pi.

You really have to know what the spring pressure is before you can use a boost controller. Make sure that it's stable before you try to raise it electronically.

I misspoke a little in my previous post.. don't disconnect "both" of your wastegate lines to run just on spring pressure.. you just need one line from the turbo outlet to the side of the wastegate. Leave the port at the top of the wastegate vented.

If your wastegate is adjustable (has a nut and adjuster on top) you may want to back out the adjuster to relieve some spring pressure. What you want to do is be able to run your "minimum" boost on just the spring pressure (say 12 lbs) and use the boost controller to raise the boost.

Good luck. Go slow.

What electrical line did you connect the solenoid to (precontrol or wastegate)?

CCarlisi, the solenoid is connected to the wastegate connector.

Dave, I am using 8mm ID pipe as that was the correct size for the already fitted fittings on the wastegate.

I have been very busy at work, and just got home. I will mail XS now to try and find out what is fitted.

Thanks

I have a question about the diagram. I also have the To4s single turbo kit from XS and I installed the Profec B spec 2 boost controller. What I was told to do is take a 6mm line to the NC port from the turbo outlet piping and a 6MM line from COM down to the wategate ports on the side and Top both. I tee'd that 6mm silicone hose into both - was this correct ? I was skeptical.

Don't know about setting up the Profec. I seem to remember there being 2 ways to set it up or something (I'm probably wrong on this). I'd dig up the instructions for it and see what they say.. All boost controllers should have instructions for aftermerket-style wastegates. Why, does it not work?

semi related question.. can i get a cheaper boost solenoid for use with the PFC? ~$400 is a bit expensive for me as i could just about get a used AVCR for that and would rather use a $50 ball and spring. sheesh after buying the EMS i'd expect to pay much less for just the boost solenoid.

If you have no desire to boost past 16 lbs (don't need a 3 bar map sensor) you can just get an AVC-R solenoid and use it. That's exactly what comes with the kit. I'm pretty sure I've seen them online for $150-$175. If you still have the twins the stock solenoid works just fine.

Hope this isnt to daft a question? my mate had his appexi boost controler set-up but was still loosing boost, i.e. boosting at 1 bar but was loosing 6psi, he turned the actuator in, which did stop the loss of boost but since he his getting ll sorts of probs, Am i right in thinking that altering the actuator will conflict the settings on the boost controler?
