so i finally gave up on the whole usb thing with the datalogit. Kept getting com errors and what not. I could not get it to run. Anyways this is what I did. My first advise to anyone thats about to get a datalogit, DO NOT GO WITH USB. It has been an headache for me trying to find drivers and choosing coms and baud rates. So my solution for this whole dilema. I kicked it old old school. Found a laptop from 1999 for 50 bucks with an old school serial port and it started right up. No problems at all. I went from a new laptop with usb ports and Vista to an older laptop with no usb ports and 4 different size serial ports running windows xp. I figure the usb connection is 35-50 bucks for a decent one and 10 dollars for the headache medicine. So figure its a better investment for a **** laptop. I understand the many expeirences vary and some people have good results with usb but it was driving me up the wall. There is only 1 com with the old school way. Anyways hope this helps

 

I used to do it that way, using a 90s laptop with a native serial port. A problem arises though because the laptop is so slow that your sample rate suffers.

Just buy a USB converter kit that actually works. A couple have been mentioned on here.

 

There are some good serial to usb convertors out there that work fine.
I posted about one of them. Did you run a search on "USB" here ?
