Question Base Mod map question

I have been reading many posts and noticed that it sounds like Apexi attempted to keep a 14.57:1 (AFR). Now this post I read was older so it might have been for the old base map and not the mod map. Does this also hold true for the mod map and since it is "tuned" for intake, DP, cat-back, intercooler, and hi-flow cat. I have the exact same mods as what was just mentioned but its running rich as hell. It sounds like it would be more appropriate to have a AFR closer to 12. I also noticed a few posts about how to come up with the correct entry to put into the INJ map based on the 14.57 and getting it to 12. (I do realize that my car might not be running at 14.57AFR currently)

I'd rather not use the PIM method since most people seem to think that is more of a hack and might change things on a broader spectrum or at least that's how I took it.

Also, is it safe to assume that leaning the mixture a little bit and not adjusting the timing is fine? I am sure more power can be had by playing with the timing but I am not that experienced so want to play it fairly safe without all the excessive backfiring I now have.

Thanks

You are working under several misunderstandings. The PFC is not setup for 14.7 under boost. It sounds like you need to spend quite a bit more time reading the older posts here and learn a little more about what you are doing.

There is nothing wrong with running the current base map for your mods at 10-11 psi. Don't start making changes to your fuel map until you have a VERY good understanding of what it is you're changing and why.

From my experience, pre-tuned PFCs are too conservative. They are set that way as a super safe starting point for tuning.

Truthfully, your mods are barely past stock. I would recommend the default 707 map set which looks like it was for the 99+ year FD.

Arutha,

My mods are almost identical to yours, Poor mans Intake mod + K&N Panel, HKS downpipe, Bonez Hi-Flow Cat, RB Cat Back, larger SMIC and Alloy AST tank.

I have been running the Apexi base map for 2 years, and have always wondered if it was safe, plenty of people tell me to get it tuned, but then plenty of people grenade engines!!

It pops and bangs a bit in the exhaust on trailing throttle, but other than that has always run fine.
