base map timing, is it indeed too advanced?

So I've had a powerFC for a few months now, with the base map. I run a wideband, and with my mods and 105% PIM voltage from 4000-8000RPM I stay in the 10.5-11.4 AFR range. My knock used to stay maxed out under boost, but I heard no audible knock. I figured it was drivetrain noise. The other day I decided to retard my timing from advice from a member on the forum. I dropped it around peak torque by 3 degrees on the IGL screen (N8-20 P16-20). I made sure there was no splits, and it looked good. My knock now drops signifigantly to around 50 under boost, but is still a little spikey, and hits 80 or so at certain RPM ranges. I know my fuel is good and I am not leaning out (93 octane).

Here are my mods.

intakes
non seq turbos
full 3" exhaust no cat
greddy 2 row FMIC
PowerFC
wbo2
10-11psi of boost
255 fuel pump
