Apexi AVC-R Losing Data

So I have a powerfc and today a buddy of mine set up my avc-r for me. We had all the directions and stuff and he put all the vacuum lines and wires in correctly. Here's the deal, we'll tune the thing and as soon as I turn the car off, when I turn it back on, all the data is gone. It even happens sometimes when I dont turn it off. If I back out of a menu and then look back at say, the duty cycles, or the boost I want to put down, it will all be reset to whatever the factory settings are.
We turned off the auto learn feature but when we come back in to that menu its all back on. Hit initialize and it doesnt save.

Any help on this would be nice. Hoping I dont have to send it back to Apexi as I just got it.

Sounds like a hardware issue to me. Did you buy it used?

yes i did buy it used. I may have found the answer to this problem. Looking around, i found that if you solder both grounding wires too close together, it causes this exact problem. I dont know if thats what it is yet as i havent gone to look at it yet.
