Air Temp/Datalogit tests

Today was a fun day of testing with my new Blitz boost controller and DATALOGIT at 12 and 14 PSI.

I will only talk about AIR Temps and PFC pressure rows.

My air temp sensor has not been moved to the IC outlet yet. I plan to do this later. Wanted to run these tests first.

My fuels maps were tuned last summer(2002). The PFC air temps were steady around 50. Now it is mild winter and no fuel or timing changes were made since then. The air temp was steady around 31. We always drive some after stopping so the heat soak temp can again stabilize.

Results: from 50C to 31C the AFRs leaned out by approx. .2. So 11.8 increased to 12. Adding fuel with the PIM pressure map required a 2.7% increase in fuel to richen up those .2 AFRs again to what was tuned last summer.

If you do not have a DATALOGIT to change fuel vs temp, when winter comes; you better add about 3+% more fuel depending on how cold it is where you live.
***************************************

I hooked a hand pump to the map sensor, Autometer boost gauge, Blitz ,PFC, and DATALOGIT to compare pressure reading. See attachment.

Todays tuning consisted(only logged runs) of four 12PSI, and six 14PSI runs. Burned up a quarter tank of gas. Map Watch displays one P row higher then what the log shows. When checking the log timing, the IGL&IGT was mainly from the row listed by the DATALOGIT(the lower of the 2 rows). I even noticed this before with the PFC by watching ghost trace and IGL&IGT. Row P17 abs pressure value equates to 10.9 psi. You think it would be selected for 12 psi or even 11.1 as the PFC shoed. No, it got most of it's values from P16.

I hate shitty equipment!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Chuck,

Your temperature correction factors are off is all. If you tuned for 51C, and it's 31C, AND you're using the stock correction factors (which might be okay for a stock car at stock levels) you need to extraplolite the new readings into a change in (the equation for) the air temperature correction factors.

chuck, I listed ideal corrections here, and compared with PFC defaults. defaults too rich when hot, and too lean when cold,

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=137398

I indicated about 3.5% richer to keep about 11.8 tuning at 30F.

Tony,

Thanks, but I knew of this problem for a long time.
I just wanted to test the stock settings first to see how
off they were before moving my air temp sensor and/or
change the corrections.

So the PFC/datalogit were correct in their boost measurement (not in their display on the commander) and like I thought, the crappy autometer boost gauge was off by a wide margin.

Got a paypal account, I'll shoot you some gas money for your tuning troubles

Just got my datalogit software and a laptop, which I'm sure you might have seen my post to the group, can't get it to load on the laptop....sucks.

GroupA: The Autometer and Blitz show the same boost.
GroupB: The PFC commander and DATALOGIT show the same boost.

But GroupA shows higher boost than GroupB.

Only the displayed PIM voltage is equal on both groups.

I will have more data from the DATALOGIT to show later. The DATALOGIT is great for tuning as it does give you good comparisons between runs, plus it's other functions. BUT it's ECU and/or the PFC ecu speeds are too slow to "accurately" capture what is occuring.

This can be seen in log data where the PIM, PIM Voltage, and Boost start getting out of sync. Then you look at the N and P rows, and IGL/IGT displayed for the pressure.

With group B what you would want to tune with, since its reading/ showing the PIM voltage for the mazda map sensor. I've relegated my autometer boost gauge to just a tool to see if I'm making more boost than normal since its now proven never to be accurate to begin with in your car and my car's case.

Got my datalogit software to load, should start having more logged runs soon to compare.
