can someone please help me out with some guidelines for installing the gm 3 bar map sensor i just bought. I have searched and searched for some info, but have come up with nothing to help me out. I know how to wire it up, but I am unsure how to tell the PFC how to read it. Please help me out
Thanks

You only need the Commander to change different settings on the PIM but having never used it I am not sure if the values can be changed. Look at page 23 on the PFC instruction manual.

I am pretty sure you need a datalogit to make those changes. I never use my commander anymore so its hard to remember offhand. If you need one just find someone close to you with a datalogit and it only takes a second. I know thats the right scale and offset but I don't think you can do it with the commander. You can chose from a selection of preprogramed offsets and scales but cannot change them yourself witht he commander.

Johno, I'm in Jacksonville. If you want to setup a time to drive up I'll hook up my datalogit to your car, but I don't claim any responsibility over your maps.

Are you looking to datalog or just adjust offset, cooling fans, & air temp correction factors?

Resource, I don't think I understand your question. Are you talking about making changes to the Injector base map through the datalogit or making adjustments to the injector mutiplication map/ignition maps with the Commander?

I am frequently running at P19, 1.15 kg/cm^2, which seems to be the limit of my stock MAP sensor. twokrx7, thanks for the info on the sensor.

Where is the best place to buy the sensor and connector? I found the sensor for $60 at http://www.turbo-link.com/tlink/order.html, but I imagine this is available from many sources. Please share if you know of a good source.

Thanks,
-Max

Max,

I bought mine from gmpartsdirect.com

sensor was $49.08, harness was $14.38 (needed to modify it a bit to work for some reason, I may have been given a wrong part number which is the one that I posted), shipping was $12.80.

Well, they certainly charge a lot for the shipping, but http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ seemed to have some of the best prices on the parts, and seemed to be a relatively good deal overall. I just ordered:

GM Part # / Description / Pack Qty / Unit Price / Quantity / Ext. Price / Core Charge / S&H

12085502 / CONNECTOR / 1 / $14.38 / 1 / $14.38 / $0.00 / $7.95

16040749 / SENSOR AS / 1 / $49.08 / 1 / $49.08 / $0.00 / $9.82

SUBTOTAL:
$63.46

SHIPPING TOTAL:
$17.77

TAXES:
$0.00

ORDER TOTAL:
$81.23

Thanks for the quick response twokrx7. I found the same info on a post to some Supra mailing list and placed my order.

I'll be back here for details on hooking it up and programming the PFC when I get it.

I'm talking about making all the neccesary changes to run the 3 bar map sensor through the datalogit.

Update, I just put my 3-bar in and the offset and scale mentioned earlier are correct. Finally will be able to tune those boost levels beyond the 17-18psi and more importantly, can make an overboost portion of the map that will run fuel rich with conservative timing.

What did you have to enter into the fuel maps? Did you have to mess with the ign maps at all?

P rows represent the same boost as before unless you change them. Your base mapped PFC's P20 is now useful, about 19 psi, where previously you could only use up to P18 or P19 at 17.5-18 psi.

Since going with the 3 bar I've reduced the number of P rows in vacuum and low boost to allow more P rows in mid to high boost. I have much more resolution in high boost plus I now have a P row for 20+psi that is super rich and conservative. This required quite a bit of cutting and pasting ignition and base maps with a few interpolations between rows. It will all require tuning corrections or at least wb o2 validation.

How did you guys get the connector to plug into the MAP sensor? I ordered the part numbers listed above but the connector doesn't seem to fit into the MAP sensor? Is there something special that I have to do?

I used the 12085502 Connector and the 16040749 MAP sensor. That is correct, right?

Thanks,
Scott

Scott, it looks like you have to modify the connector a bit by cutting slots to clear the parts in the connector on the MAP sensor. I read that you needed to do a little mod to make it work; I think that's all you need to do to it.

I keep forgetting the free shopping...

I saw those little plastic pieces and I tried cutting slits into the connector but the scissors did not work, I will try something else.

Thanks,
Scott

lane_change,

I used an exacto knife on the connector and it went pretty quick. Any small razor blade tool should do.

That is what I used today and it worked fine. Wonder why they don't fit from the factory anyways. Thanks for the tips guys.

It sure looks like a standard WeatherPack connector to me, perhaps with some special slots so it can connect to the MAP sensor. AutoZone even sells them.
