PFS vs. Pettit ECU for moderately modded car
Already have: DP + CB
Plans for 2001: intake+midpipe
2001-2002: FMIC, pulleys
I'm having a hell of a time making up my mind on which computer system to get. I am interested in 100% reliability and daily driveability. I want SAFE power gains. I'm really a bit confused about where to go...my closest rx-7 friends are split....some say PFC, some say ECU. What do you folks think?

Your initial post is a little confusing, as to what is in the scope of your analysis. I'm not sure if you want to consider (for whatever reasons) the PFS, or the PFC, or both. I'll assume that all options are open to you (Haltech, Motec, etc) as well.
Its commendable that you've already defined the modifications you want to do (although I don't condone the FMIC part, but that's a separate issue).
My suggestion to you is to define the extent that you want to involve yourself into the car's tuning.
Do you want to simply plug something in that works, forget it and go on with life? If so, stick with a less involved ECU option, such as a Pettit or M2 remap.
If you want to be more informed and involved with the setup of your ECU and to do some ongoing monitoring, consider a PFS/EFI PMS w/keypad or software (especially if you have an R-model) or a Power FC w/commander.
If you absolutely want to control every single thing in your engine bay (doesn't sound like you do), consider a Haltech.
Make your decisions on what control/flexibility/involvement level works for you and then do your research into each product; don't just accept someone's response like "Get a Power FC from Shane Racing and that's all you need!"
Good luck!

Thank you, I knew I would eventually make the mistake to misstype Power FC as PFS rather than PFC.
I was speaking strictly of the PFC vs. the Pettit ECU but I think you've pretty much answered my question anyway.

Yellow Dragon is no more
I recommend the PowerFC ... you can tune your engine whenever you want and you don't have to rewire the engine for a new aftermarket ECU. The PowerFC does a better job at controlling boost, it runs smoother, and it eliminates the 3k hesitation. The car is SO MUCH happier now.
