Volvo Powered FC?

This is my Volvo Powered FC,
I bought it in this condition so i didin't do the swap.
Originally i was going to ditch the motor and go for a 1jz
However I've had it for about a month now and I've started to wonder why this swap would have been done, what is this engine capable of?
I'll post up some pictures that I have now, I'll take more tomorrow also, If anyone wants to help me find more information on this engine i'd really appreciate it. if the motor is something that can be built, I want to build it.

Note: The vin on the head reads 1000530

Volvo Redblock engines are proven capable of 1000bhp+, one of the strongest 4cyl engines you can get.

The DOHC head bolts straight on, but TBH you can get mega power from the single cam heads anyhow.

Can i do it with stock internals?
Where can i start with modification to improve performance?
Should i go for Turbo or are there other mods i should do before hand?

I've been looking for a turbo manifold for this engine, having a bit of a hard time, what would be a good peak amount of boost to run?

Grab a 2.3 turbo from a Volvo 740/760/940/960 turbo, thats an ideal base for power.
Pretty much a straight swap from yours to the turbo one, but the dizzy is on the back of the head so might struggle with space for that, we cut a little hole in the bulkhead when fitting one to a 240- you changed the cap and arm from inside the car, lol.

If you get the late M90 (i think?) box its mega strong too so can take the crazy power big turbo versions of these can give.

First step is to go injected, the carb is going to hold me up, I have the early B230 block so i have to switch out my internals with the stronger 90's ones.
Once I'm done with that then I can go turbo.
I can also fit the dual cam head and it will be good for 700+hp.
I'm waiting to do fuel injection and switch to MS.

Hmm a Volvo motor, sounds unique, and interesting, Iam getting a FD3 in December, but have the 13b blowed up. I live in Portugal and want the best motor with mechanical support in the country, since mazda dont give suport for models like rx7 and 8 here. Will folow your thread. Good luck with the mods.

I'm actually trying to trade it for an FC TII Shell or a Rotor powered FC,
I have the itch to tune rotor, so I just can't hold on to this one.

some of those 2.3s have oil squirters in the block to cool pistons and forged everything, built like a Swedish tank

The 16v head makes tons of power,
but I'd just rather tune a rotary.
lol Preference I guess.

A40 aisin warner tranny

Make an offer, lol.
But the carb dose need a rebuild kit, the adjustment for idle backs itself out.
