Supra Engine Transplant
garrett832 is professional mechanic by day, and has his own turbo shop afterhours. Since his new rebuilt single turbo engine blew after a local crappy shop tuned it, he is installing a JDM turboed Supra engine in his FD. He is doing all the custom fabrication himself.
Here are three pictures from today.

That will be awesome for dragging but won't it throw off the whole geometry of the car? Not trying to be Mr. negative or anything, I think it is awesome. Just curious how the car will drive with that much weight in the front.

[QUOTE=ulost2my7]thats the engine that should have been there in the first place..

Naw, a 3-rotor should have been there. The other manufacturer's need to learn how to produce a light weight sprot car with great handling and timeless looks to put their motors in.

Importance of 50/50 is overrated. There are plenty of cars out there with less than front/rear weight distribution that handles well.

I witnessed this car with Chuck today, I can tell you it was unbelievable for less than 2 weeks of work ... steering rack is unchanged, firewall had to be clearanced via hammer, aftermarket hood clears(stock hood, no way), it will be a piece of work when done and at this pace we will likely be posting results in a few weeks!!!!!

Its a good idea, but alot more expensive than the LS-1/2/6 swap - in my book its not worth it - but thats my opinion
All you really get is the wow factor...a big wow factor but still it weighs a ton more than the 13b and even more than the LS...theres nothing sweeter than looking at the sweet valve cover that says 2JZ-GTE in the bottom right(2jz-gte fans will know what i mean) in tiny letters(except maybe seeing the sweet intake manifold of the LS with a carbon fiber y-shaped intake coming off it)
It may be worth it if alot more people did it and theres a kit like the Hinson for the LS, but its too much pioneering for me to handle.

i have all ways loved the idea personaly I do love the rotary dont get me wrong but how many rotays have 600whp are street driven and have 180k miles? none that i know of. Mine will stay in until i reach the limit or blow it up then im not sure if i will replace it with another rotary or another engine. the cornering factor is amazing and the under dog factor is always fun too i guesse its just more of a personal preferance.

Since he is a good mechanic on non-Mazda engines, it will cost him less to do this then to pay Kyle and I to rebuild his 13B-REW (two bad housings, and 1 bad rotor), and then to tune it for 500rwhp.
His site is: http://home.earthlink.net/~chappy89/main.htm
He sold the stock twins, IC, radiator, PFC. etc.. I think the only stuff he has not sold was the tranny, single turbo kit, and what remains of his engine.
He also drag races a turboed 3969CI 1000+hp Ford Ranger. Due to his many connections, the Supra engine and tranny only cost him $1900.
He might even come out ahead with this swap with cash in his pockets!

As long as a 2jz is, what do you do for mounting some of the acessories, and where do you put the steering rack? A shorter LS1 swap into a FD has a reccomendation for getting a bump-steer kit, so Id imagine a 2JZ would need it too.
Also, you want (for handling) a somewhat rear-weighted car - such as the lotus elise. It apparently maximizes the total traction available to a car, especially while braking - the car leans forwards and all 4 tires end up with enough pressure down upon them by the weight of the car that they can spread out the braking force more evenly. 50/50 sells well, but honestly 55f/45r wont really hurt much. You can always tune around it with coilovers, aero kits, or just stripping the car and getting some ballast. Also, 20B's, big FMICs and radiators can make the FD noseheavy all on their own, FYI :P
Oh, and GoodfellaFD3S - This is the other engine conversions forum!

... wwwwwwwwwhoops!
hey, no biggie, I just get defensive easy about the rotary v piston battle royales. But if it was in the 3rd gen forum, well, it was perfectly okay to say that :P

haha yeah its cool, i get defensive too when people tell me the rotary sucks or whatever..but sometimes i welcome reality when comparing to another engine that might be better and see it as a better engine in my eye..
especially the 2JZ
but im still a rotary lover
