wow!......subscribing!

imtiaz 04-06-10 01:46 PM

does the custom subframe maintain the stock location of the steering rack ?

Islander 04-06-10 02:37 PM

Nice as hell. Awesome fab work. And you right in VA. I need to drop my car off to you for some upgrades... lol

Unfortunately, no. It is impossible to keep the steering rack at the factory height without having the engine higher than the hood due to the height of the inline 6. I plan to correct the bumpsteer created from this with inner or outer bump steer correction kits.

Yup, I am in Richmond VA. If you are serious, I do perform work for customers and can replicate my swap if requested. I should have the motor/trans out this week to paint the engine bay.

Truly epic! I will be checking this out a lot! I love conversions and all the custom work associated with them.

That's correct. My currently welding area (in front of the car until my other garage gets built) is pretty cramped and I don't have enough room to comfortably weld around more of the pipe at a time or clamp it in a position to do so, so I am forced to weld it in shorter sections. The penetration on the inside looks good. I didn't take any pictures of it unfortunately.

KKMpunkrock2011 04-09-10 12:57 PM

this is awesome, I wish I had your fab skills

Removed my engine, trans, intercooler, radiator, etc and did a little engine bay prep. I welded shut about 50 holes that were no longer being used and sprayed some primer until I can get some high build stuff and then paint the bay soon. I also made some block-off plates for the factory a/c firewall pass-through and the factory engine harness grommet with provisions for some deutsch connectors that will be used for the engine harness.

stock bottom end? or you have any plans to "stuff it" ex. bore.stroke etc. this set up on this 2j bpu will still put out some great numbers glwb!

GSXRATED 04-15-10 11:29 AM

Stock bottom end with L19 studs/ some valvesprings and cams until i can get the car running and sort out any small issues. I think I should be able to put down 600rwhp through the auto with the GT4276 on the stock bottom end until I upgrade. It should be plenty to get the car setup and working 100% correctly on the track.

Finally, I have some more progress (albeit minor) to post up. I painted the engine bay and touched up the wheel wells. I should be able to put my front suspension back on now.

I really like your work. You have good fabrication and welding abilities, but I'm looking at the intercooler mounting and I'm a little baffled as to why it's solid mounted without any flex joints in the hot and cold piping?

turbo10th 05-09-10 08:42 PM

Awesome work and looks great. Changed alot since i last saw it when i picked up some parts :).

There are no couplers or flex sections because the motor is solid mounted to the chassis and will not move independently of the chassis. The V-bands were built with o-ring grooves in order to seal properly. For a track car like mine with a solid mounted engine, it should be fine

Haha, yeah I have done a little work since the last time you saw it. Let me know if you need any other FD parts.

YoshiFD3S 05-17-10 11:36 PM

I'm jealous.

My swap doesn't look near as pretty right now.

lol :P

WiredRebel 05-18-10 01:30 AM

What do you charge for this swap? I want to do all this to my JDM 92 Fd but my car is still a dd, and I always wanted to use the getreg.

So what kind of money would I be tossing your way? I got no cash at the moment but I am wondering

If you are really serious, send me a PM with some details of what you would want and we can talk.

rotaryrx7fc 05-25-10 08:17 PM

Impressive! Very unique and so clean. Mad props! Good build and keep us posted. I want to see quarter mile times.

GSXRATED 05-27-10 12:21 AM

Thanks, progress is painfully slow right now due to me switching jobs and having to move (working for Honda R&D now). I chipped all of the sound deadening out of the interior and am thinking about what to do with the rear end in the car now. I'm torn between keeping the stock interior with a stronger IRS, or putting in a solid rear and 4-linking the car. The motor is also going to get some work done. I am definitely building the head, but I am still thinking about whether to go ahead and build the bottom end now or leave it stock and get the car up and running for a little while with less power.

xerospeed 06-06-10 01:15 PM

wow, great work man, cant wait to see the finished project, like others said props on the fab work as well!

krayton 06-08-10 04:30 PM

too much awesomeness.

so did use your stock subframe pieces on your custom one?

GSXRATED 06-08-10 07:42 PM

Yes, the lower control arm mounts are from the stock subframe on this build.

Jimbo II 07-25-10 08:18 PM

Any progress on this? Or just more pics of your wicked welding...
