Hoods that fit with a Tech2 kit and 2JZ:

I've heard mixed reviews on whether or not the VIS version of the scoot hood will fit/clear the 2JZ on top of the Tech2 frame.

Does anyone have any pictures, or otherwise proof of these hoods clearing?

I know Tony here said his Scoot version and it did not clear.

ive been researching and tossing ideas up and even brainstorming with the the tech2 team, they reason the scoot hood fit on there rx7 is because they are running a 1jz swap and they had to shave the vents big time for clearance. If you look at some of there pics you will see it. Now from what i gather the 2jz sits alot higher then the 1jz so as of right now until another hood is made id say the tech2 hood. Now one idea i brainstormed is what if someone got a scoot copy "fiberglass and bodyworked the middle hump a little higher for clearance that may work but i suck at body work lol so i couldnt tell ya.

I bought the tech 2 hood doesnt look bad and comes in a nice finish..

The 1J block is about 1" shorter.
I'm thinking of picking up one of those VIS scoots, and see what would need to be done.

I'll definitely update this thread though, since this info is hard to find.

This is why my 2JZ subframe was all custom-fabricated....I could run a stock hood if I wanted...Giggity! ^.^

I'm actually still running my current hood:

But it did require modification and some re-fiberglassing due to the downward design.

I'll post pics when I go see the car in 2 weeks.

My subframe offers use of the stock hood as well, and is constructed completely from mandrel bent chromoly tubing.

if you look on tech2 website you'll see that they have a scoot hood on there FD. it was a 1j but you can see that they shaved/cut back the fins on the scoot hood to make it fit.

i made my own mounts and still use the stock sub frame and i use the scoot hood. I cut out all the vents though and had to take out most of the duct in the center on the bottom. I Originally cut the vents out cause they did in fact hit my single turbo, edge of valve cover and intake. I made a different intake and soon will make another manifold to sit the turbo lower than the valve cover so then ill mod the stock hood with a small hump for the front of valve cover or close the holes (old vents) on the scoot hood and just keep the front air scoop. The scoot hood does have the original shape as stock, its just raised up in the center...so with it all closed off i believe it would appear stock much better than the tech2 hood but here is my hood below and my first test pass being very easy on it

Not unless you want your block on the ground, son. Use a 1jz.
