BLASPHEMY! EJ25 in an FC (The project begins)

Okay, since there's not really a "conversion forum" here on the club. I thought i'd just post this here.

I find myself if the awkward position of having a 1990 FC with no power plant or transmission, save the rear end. Now to make things more awkward I also have the engine from a 2005 STi extra from a swap deal gone awry. I was looking at the two of them and I thought to myself.

"Damn I bet that could fit in my FC if I put the trans from a TII on it."

I don't have the Transmission yet, but i've been thinking about it and the more I look into it the more I like the idea.

It's not that I hate rotaries but I just happen to have an extra engine lying around and I don't have a rotary engine on hand. So I figure why not. I know it's going to be a pain in the ass in terms of money and Fabrication but who knows, in the end I may just end up having a truly unique FC.

Hate all you want I just want some feedback.

Actually, yes there is. Its called the "other engine" section.

Anyway, good luck with the swap, those engines can be beasts.

duhafnusa4 09-01-08 04:15 PM

DO IT.... with pics!

ITSWILL 09-01-08 04:40 PM

go for it man could be cool, but be prepared to pay as much (or more) to do the conversion as it would be to get a TII engine and tranny.

foxman 09-01-08 04:58 PM

Amazing that it has not been tried before, or maybe it has...

wordforge 09-01-08 05:12 PM

well I just went out and measured the Strut towers on the fc and they're 33 1/2" apart and the EJ is about 31" side to side. so it should fit.

Hypertek 09-01-08 05:47 PM

man that engine would be badass in a 70s porsche 911 chassis those are cheap and u could build a 930 killer... would be hella exotic.

but gl. make sure u dump it on coilovers and badass rims, might as well go all out if ur gonna do it.

wordforge 09-01-08 06:00 PM

that's the plan.

I was looking at some TEINs with the EDFC gizmo. I'm just worried that the EJ25 will weigh too much compared to the 13b.

it's your money, you can waste it any way you want but it seems dumb to me.

Anyone who thinks an engine swap is dumb is anti-American. And a communist. And probably a pedophile.

Mazda_Power 09-01-08 08:02 PM

You'd have better luck with the Suby trans (which is junk unless it's a STi) and blocking off the front axle holes.

fcdrifter13 09-01-08 08:10 PM

I remember Nihl saying that this would not work for some reason. Something that it could not sit low enough in the frame or far enough back or something like that.

I was actually speaking with someone over at nasioc about that very thing.

sub9lulu 09-01-08 08:29 PM

do it, all u need is some engine mount, adapter plate for the tranny, and may be even stock STI ecu or whatever standalone of ur choice and off u go
if the FC bay wide enuf for the boxer engine tho ?

wordforge 09-01-08 08:36 PM

well I measured the engine i have, the best I could and then I climbed in the engine bay of my FC and I think it should work. The only thing I'm worried about is hood clearance. But I think that if I use some kind of Liquid to air or FMIC i should be okay.

Besides guys are able to shoe horn LS1's into that engine bay. so the EJ25 should fit.

island-fc 09-01-08 08:40 PM

be pretty siick if you kept the trans with the motor and incorporated the 4wd into the fc... baller status

DC13B 09-01-08 08:46 PM

^that would be insane...
but damn near impossible for the average home garage guy.

ive always loved boxer engine, the sound is truely unique

SouthSideSlider 09-01-08 08:47 PM

problems getting it in there wi th the steering working. my freind and i looked at this with a extra EJ22 he had lieing around. here just frget the boxer 7 and just get a old subaru and a Boxer 6 suby motor from either the the SVX or the B6 tribeca

Unless you went with a tube frame up front like a lot of the hot rod guys do.

ITSWILL 09-01-08 08:54 PM

I wish I had an sti engine just hanging around, all I have is V8 stuff.

Don't forget they're most likely a terrorist too.

I like the idea of the EJ25 in an FC. The increase in torque would be a welcome change, and it would be a total mindfuck when you hear the boxer rumble coming out of an FC. I'm kind of worried about space issues, but I hope it will work out. Best of luck to you, sir.

island-fc 09-01-08 08:57 PM

Rod Millen did it :tonque:

Someone beat me to mentioning it, but if you did it and kept the AWD, that would be so friggin super-sick!! I say, as long as you have another RX-7 around with the rotary in it, GO for it! Be a pioneer! Do the writeup! :icon_tup:

Good luck to you sir!
