backwards rotary swap
backwards rotary swap
i am looking to put a 13b in my 1st gen crx. i plan to use the 1st gen rx7 rear end. will the gearing in the 13b tranny work with the 1st gen rear end? also, how capable is the 12a? im sure i could get one of those a lot cheaper. i also plan on using a carburator. i know all the crap that is gonna go into putting it into the car, so whatever you can tell me about the rotory parts would be helpful
i hope this doesnt come off in a bad way, not my intention at all. i know how front engine rear drive cars work. thats what i got started in when i was a lot younger. i have just gotten into imports the past few years and have a pretty quick 91 crx as a daily driver, but now want to do something crazy with my 86 crx.
i think for now i am gonna have a tranny adaptor made and put the 13b in with the stock tranny and keep it front drive to work out the kinks with a rotary powered crx. after a while of playing wiht that i will work on making it rear wheel drive.
i would still appretiate and helpful hints on what to do with the engine. i have a pretty good idea how the engine mounts are gonna go, i mostly want info on running a carbed 13b. i have never run a fuel injected engine with a carb. i have heard of a kit to use a holly 4 bbl carb on it. how streetable is that? what about the distributor? will the 12a one work? thanks in advance for the help and no bashing

yes the GSL-SE has a solid rear axle too.
Any N/A rx-7 transmissions will bolt up to any N/A rx-7 engine. Doesnt matter if its a 12 or a 13b. You can use a 12a tranny with a 13b motor.
The GSL-SE did come with a fuel injected 13b motor.
As far as converting to carb goes, you need to get the fuel injector plug kit from racing beat.
However instead of doing that, if you are going carb, it might be worth while to make a 4 port 13b motor. This can be accomplished simpliy by using some 12a sideplates and intermediate housing, GSL-SE rotor housings (second and third gen ones wont work because they moved the water seal groove) Any 13b rotors of your choice, and a 13b eccentric shaft. Give that thing a nice port job and you have got one powerful engine. More info on this can be found in the 1st gen section, as mroe people make 4 ports in there.
Hope this helps.
