AJ30 3.0 v6 in a FC3s?

yo

My uncle recently hooked me up with a free AJ-30 from a Jaguar x-type. Since im trying to stay as budget the plan is to put that in my 1986 FC3s (i got the car with no engine). I've looked high and low and havent seen i couldn't find anyone online who has done it before. was just curious if anybody here has ever seen it done/thinks it can be done? I know its a very popular engine to put into a miata, so i assume it should work out in an FC3s. Sorry if its a dumb question, im just trying to get a plan ready

welcome to the board.

well, with all due respect, i'm not sure you're asking the right questions. the two main questions to your quandary should be: 1. what is your budget? and 2. how is the work getting done? work takes time, and time costs money if you're not doing the work yourself (and even sometimes when you do). for a custom job like this, you need to expect it to take a lot of time, and therefore cost A LOT of money. it can decimate your budget.

as far as the questions that you actually asked are concerned, you can pretty much put any engine into anything. it comes down to how determined you are, and how much money you have (or maybe who you know). it may sound cliche, but it's a simple truth. my guess is it's probably not a "popular" thing here, so you'll likely need to read up the details of the Miata swaps you referenced, and apply whatever you can to your FC. i think a lot of it should translate pretty easily. mounting issues will obviously be unique as will the ultimate connection to the differential.

there is a kit to swap one of those in a miata https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=740453
so i imagine the FC would just be easier, although you'd have to fab it all yourself.

the engines are pretty crappy (it says Ford right on it), so you should make sure you have a good one, they aren't really rebuildable
seems like the easy way would be to confirm the engine is good, and sell, and then use the money and buy a rotary that fits and a big turbo...

I appreciate your answers boys! I plan on doing just about everything myself (with help form my dad because he's the one with all the experience). I know it will most likely be a big challenge but now that i know its possible, I'm very motivated. will most likely take a while but I'm looking forward to learning and building a unique FC! ill keep you updated with the progress
