454 swap?? / veggie power??

ive been wondering where people have swapped 350's and all that in their rx7 i was wondering if i could fit a 454 or maybe even a 472 into a first gen rx7 without a ton more work than just using a 350 i know it would be heavy as hell but with some tuning and slight building i think i could make it a powerhouse

also i saw a thread about swaping a diesel into an rx7 but it was for a second gen i was wondering if anyone knew anything about swaping an idi diesel engine into a first gen rx7 and running it on veggie oil thats something ive wanted to do with mine for a long time so if anyone has any plans or thought please let me know

because ls1's are over-rated
put a bbc in, worry about brake booster if you can even run it
the mount dimensions are the same....
it is only about 100-150 pounds heavier..... not heavy as hell....
if you are overweighted and you are building this car, you can easily shave 100 elsewhere

Right, and it won't clear the hood (as in, valve covers will stick out of the hood), will have difficulty fitting sufficiently good flowing headers, difficulty cooling, etc.

So it doesn't fit as well, doesn't make much more power, gets lower milage, and weighs more than an LSx.

Have you any clue what you're talking about at all, or do you just enjoy hearing yourself speak?

To the OP; a diesel would make for a great little car, just remember the gearing out back; most diesel engines don't rev particularly high, so you'll either need a tranny with some big gears or a rear end swap.

Have you done a BBC swap? Or build a BBC?
Or are you just butt hurt because I bashed the LSx series engine?

With that aside, I do believe a LS is a wiser swap - but did you forget that he is asking between a Diesel or a bbc?

LOL, yes, I'm very offended.

I've worked with 396-632 big blocks. I've been involved in swaps in several chassis, though no big blocks in RX7s, and for good reasons.

Is there something incorrect in what I stated above, or are you just arguing for the sake of it?

The BBC is a poor swap choice for the FC. With the rearend ratios, the diesel also is not a great choice. Both can be worked around and both can be done, but that doesn't make either of them a good idea.

It can be, has been and it's brutally fast without turbo, NOX, injection or aviation fuel. Very streetable and a total gas to drive. Except for the air cleaner that does come through a hole in the hood and is about 1" exposed the hood closes. There is also a 3 1/2" 90 degree chrome downturn off the single magnaflow 40 series at the stock location in the rear but other that that, it looks totally stock.
In case you missed it, look at the size of those valve covers in the picture ! ! And yes, the brake booster is still there and functional (barely)

Do you have a link to the page you think it is? I looked through all the gallery photos and none of those is this car. Or can you cut and paste it ?
I'd give anything to find out who did the original work. I received the keys and title, PERIOD!
Yes it was purchased off Ebay two years ago. I've been working on finishing up the conversion, upgrading the cooling and cleaning up the electrical. It's a real odd duck because it still retained the original rear u joint, all the original (1983) front end parts with about 100K on them and the way the carb was set up looked like high school kids who never went to auto shop. I pulled that 750 mech/mech off and am going with a 780 vac/electric I bought a long time ago, maybe I knew?
BUT, the engine has some expensive parts in it. The engine and transmission were mounted solidly and correctly. They put in a MSD to fire the plugs. It's like they ran out of money, time or both and kind of tossed the rest together. It had a broken junkyard (Taurus?) cooling fan placed on the radiator. A volvo radiator and expansion tank. The tank was bolted down but the radiator was just sitting on two big "J" brackets bent out of steel.
But no matter what, it is just so damn cool to drive. It's very touchy getting away from a stop but it's a killer when you step down anywhere above 30! Has stock tires.
I don't know who's headers they are using. They are wrapped with tape so there isn't much to see. The exhaust is pretty cool looking. It's two 3" coming off the headers and then coming back close to the diff where they are joined and then dumped into a magnaflow 40 series with a chromed 90 welded directly to the end. I'm still trying to ID the intake. It's the first time I've seen an aluminum intake that didn't have the MFG's name and trademark on the outside!
