thanks, motor is out of the car right now, just extended my shifter. im getting ready to get my intake manifold real quick and finish up all the engine bay plumbing, still trying to decide on which standalone to go with, its down to aem and haltec. i also started my turbo manifold after some hrs of trying to figure out my collectors and lenghts etc.

Not trying to thread jack by any means and alot of people are veiwing this thread which tells me there's signs of interest in doing said swap and people are worried about cost.... I figured i'd do a smidge of homework. Obviously, i have a motor sitting infront of my car going in now and wont be doing a jz swap (unless luck plays out towards it) BUT that doesn't mean i'll stop supporting and helping others complete their swap, even if it is on a budget. The w58 is a decent gearbox IF it's in good order and you use really good gear oil that has good lubrication and shock absorbing/thermal handling capabilities if an r154 aint in the cards. You can get 2jzge's from u pulls from various lexus models. IS, GS and SC off the top of my head. PUll a part prices are fixed so that's an option. Just keep at hunting and RESERVE that shit as soon as you see one pop up making sure you've got the money in hand. You can use the ge manifold runners and flange and have someone who can weld aluminum do u up something nice using another plenum from another motor or full custom. OR you could even go as far as to make a two peice intake that has runners that bolt to a sheet metal plenum to keep costs down. Welding ears and flush-machining the runners shouldn't cost more than $300 and if you can weld or know people, a plenum wouldn't cost all that much so this is an option considering the savings over buying a GTE/GTTE engine. |
I just finished my swap, well almost finished, it is not as nice as this guys but I am on a budget. :)
I just got my engine running last week after a couple weeks diagnosing my custom wire harness from tech 2, but I finally got it running.:rock: I am just hooking up my oil pressure gauge, tach, right now. I looked at hooking up my speedo cable this morning and I think I need some parts to make it work. I have an r154 that cam with an electronic speed sensor, the factory one is not plug and play as stated in another thread, could some one tell me what part I need to hook it up and get it to work.:ponder: has any one done the tach recalibration yet, I am going to try what granny speed shop suggests to calibrate the tach. My r154 had a mechanical input not electrical, all I had to do was plug my cable into it

W58 down right sucks if you plan to make over 400 HP and drive the car like its supposed to be driven, the torque is what kills it.I've built cars with the 3 sgte and used w58 tranny.made 500 HP and little torque tranny held.but once on a jz making power 58 is a waste of time.

Powertran is now back in for good, untill paint but it will be running befor that happens. My only key for the car up and walked away so I'm having to swap locks and ing. With a parts car I have, oh well I guess. ordering my virtual works intake manifold shortly and just got more turbo manifold materials last week, me and my shop buddy are ordering all of our cage stock as well (we have to build cages for 4 cars very soon, 2 of which are mine) so its time to hammer down. And I have decided to go with the haltech

i wouldn't it sounds better than a rotary, because only a jet engine sound better, but i got to say well done and its a trillions times better than a V8

update, turbomanifold is almost done, been making it at work during one of my 30min breaks. fitting my radiator as well and making ducting and shrouds to put the air exactly where i want it. also fabing up my power steering tank. saving for a vacation so pretty much no cash for this at the moment but it will keep getting closer every so often.

manifolds all welded up, now i just need to place the wastegates. i also felt like sticking slicks on the other project for some test fitting.

started getting the raidiator in the car, made a aluminum mounting frame for it, have a few little brackets left to make but you get the idea. also re clocked my turbo and started playing with charge pipe but i only have this pic off hand and was mostly for my own reference later but ill share it anyways.

I'm picking up a TII roller in the next couple days. Probably gonna do a 2jzge with lots of nitrous instead of a turbo setup. Gonna be a welfare budget drag car lol |
well this isnt going to happen with the 2j anymore...picking up a fd tomorrow and im throwing the 2j into it with a v160, but i did order my self a 1jvvti to stick in the fc in its place so i dont feel bad lol. seeing how all the hard work is done on the fc i should have the vvti running within a few days of it going into the car so at least i can keep my self sain while i build the fd up.

Great build so far. Sad to see this has hit a speed bump. I have been debating also picking up an FC roller to do a swap. Im curious to know if anyone has sorted out the wiring for this swap? I think you can save a lot of $$$ by using the stock 1JZ/2JZ ECU's

Yeah using stock ecus saves a lot of money but there was no way a stock ecu would run my 2j, the vvti 1j however is in the car now and being wired up with the stock ecu. The wiring in my opinion is pretty easy as long as your motor comes with a decent harness that's not cut up.
