Lookin' like trash. Waiting on some silly nipple for the oil filter relocater and we should be in business for another shred session.

you happy with the non vvti 1j?

Absolutely. It's probably close to 300rwhp so that goes a long way in a stripped Fc. If I had the money and a better chassis I would consider investing in VVTI unit. I've heard there's some difficulty tuning them and finding quality exhaust manifolds for them though.

Haven't had time to mess with the car, hopefully after Christmas I'll get some time to fix things and get pictures for the bros who needed specifics on the swap.

^JTP shredding on the beast

I'm still working on the oil relocation and need to plumb a recirculating overflow. Anyone in socal ever check out Adam's kart track drift nights? Kinda tempting for only $20 to run

Finally got the oil cooler hooked up after the few months that I've had it.

I'm not terribly happy about the line placement, but as long as the car can shred it's good enough for now.

danegerous 04-28-14 01:03 PM

Just wanted to let you dudes know, even with a blocked oil cooler line (due to the hose lining failing) this thing still ran and drive and boosted just fine. Eventually the pressure blew the seal in the AN fitting but despite all that the engine is good. 1J is an animal.

danegerous 05-05-14 01:01 AM

Got tired of this thing looking so silly with the fronts sticking out so much further than the rears...so we did this! It was a learning experience but it came out okay

still waiting on bellhousing, clutch, and debating still on which turbo to run after then just gotta weld up new intercooler piping and redo cooling system, and all the little time consuming parts

danegerous 05-26-14 10:15 PM

Man that thing looks right at home in there. There's some things I would have done differently with my car, I like how your core support is intact and stuff.

It'll be worth it though man, these engines are so stout and take nothing to run. I drove my car with no intake, intercooler or exhaust to test it out haha.

You might consider a holset or other truck turbos - they're fairly cheaper than garret or turbonetics.

stevens1092 05-26-14 11:48 PM

thanks man, yeah im looking at doing ethier a hx/hy 35 or 40 depending on whats available since my manifold is for a t4 flange. On a side note are you running any sort of subframe spacers for clearance?

With the mounts that I had made, the Circuit Sports S13 bushing kept the engine just above the power steering rack. After a short while though, the mounts began to flex and it was rubbing so the fabricator shimmed the mounts with a few washers to clear the rack again. So far it's holding up great. The only other concern is the front sway bar hitting, you may need to space it down. I also cut out part of the inner skeleton on my hood.

FC_fan 06-29-14 11:20 AM

this thread has a lot of the info I was looking for, especially good pics of the mounts. Nice build, and those psm LCA's are crazy good.

ive read this thread like 5 times in the past year:P finally went out and picked up a 1jz gte vvti out of a soarer!:P How much do you think you spent on getting the motor in and running? have you had tranny isues with that w58?

Cheers on the awsome build:icon_tup:

Hah congrats on the new project. Roughly I think I've spent...

engine $1400 shipped
trans $250
drive shaft $400
engine / trans mounts ~$500
intercooler piping / fabrication ~250
down pipe parts / fab ~$250
power steering lines ~$100
clutch line ~40

for good measure lets add $500 for misc. Theres a lot of little things that nickel and dime the price up, like ARP fly wheel bolts and stuff, custom fuse box, relays etc. But the meat and potatoes is up there and it comes to around $3600. Not bad for reliability. You could save some money by manipulating the stock wiring to power the 1jz ecu and stuff like that but I just decided to do it from scratch.

Good luck friend, let me know if you have any questions! :icon_tup:

Haven't even been in the same state dude haha. I just ordered some shit for it...might actually drive it sometime soon.

If you don't mind me asking, I'm kind of curious what you went with on a few things...

I'm working on my own 1JZ Swap.

Where did you buy your oil cooler?
Stock ecu? Piggyback? Standalone?
And what shifter extension are you using?

Sorry, just some questions rolling around in my head to see what the other 1jzfc guys are doing.

I'm thinking stock oil cooler with SR20 radiator and 2x12 e-fans. May pick up an AEM F/IC or Emanage Blue for tuning.

Oil cooler is a setrab I got off ebay for $60
Stock ecu
Stock shifter extension - trans is from an MKIV N/A Supra

FC_fan 07-10-15 09:37 AM

the MKIV N/A supra extension works? Nice. I thought the later model chaser extension was the only one that would. Is it the same USDM and JDM N/A extension, or special only on one or the other do you know?

another question, will the stock t2 FC fuel pump be enough for a stock 1jz or no? also fuel lines, whats going on there, I assume the stock lines won't reach at all.

You can buy cheap fuel return lines by the foot at Driftmotion.com. So many things for the swap you can get there. I would just get a supra or walbro 255 but I bet the T2 would be enough for stock injectors.

FC_fan 07-12-15 10:30 PM

Ya, I may just use the supra pump. I'll just be stock GTE for a while on the stock ECU. But to be on the safe side, it couldn't hurt. I have been on and off reading about 1jz swaps and re reading threads lately. I get pumped sometimes, my rotary is dying a slow low compression death with a small oil control ring crack. But funds. my daily 2.5rs impreza took a hit. replaced a motor and then that motor blew a head gasket 10k miles later. pissed. rebuilt that then snapped a spring cuz my stock struts were almost gone. new suspension. wouldn't you know it after that I had an oil leak I thought was cam seal but now seems like its a head gasket issue since I have some loss of power. AND its a lame auto and that trans is slipping. all my money went into my daily, and not even for anything cool. lame.

sorry bout that, just really thinking of pulling a loan and getting the 1jz done. tired of waiting. I want the hottness NOW lol.

It's a slow build. Mine will have taken 3-4 months and I'm not even sure I'll be done. (That being said, I don't have my own garage to do it in and I am not cutting corners).

After have gotten half way, I miss the rotary, I REALLY do. It would have been much easier to put in a Turbo II (almost the same cost after having a JDM one rebuilt to spec). That being said, I do not regret putting the JZ in. I still have to do wiring, various hoses, cutting for intercooler, custom clutch line, shifter extension, driveshaft, etc.

I also did a T2 rear end conversion as well, so that made this project a little more lengthy for me.

This mamasan is just hanging out, ready to shred. Hopefully soon.

This sweet princess found a new home in Arizona. The owner is a friend of mine and has plenty of disposable income to finish her up the way she deserves. I'm happy to help anyone who's curious about the swap. The biggest obstacle in this whole ordeal is finding a transmission or coughing up the money to do a Z33.

Anyway, onward and upward. I think next round I am going to stay rotary.
