Who has a cage or roll bar in thier rx3?

Hey guys, I need to install something decent for seat belts. I'd like to put a aftermarket harness system in but there isnt anything good to attach it too. I've been looking things over and to be honest the car is about a strong as a tin can. I cant find anything back there that is strong enough that I trust it for a safty belt system.

I think I might end up having to install some kind of cage or roll bar but damn I cant even find a place strong enough for that. Do any of you have anything that you consider to be real safe and secure? Even the frame looks like its nearly nothing and a jack will bend it all up.

I do I do.

What you could do is plate the rocker panel and run a piece of 1 5/8 tubeing between the rockers just below the floor and attach the harness just behind the front seat. I f you wanted to get more industrial you could plate the rockers like I said and install a 6 point roll bar.

just seems like the entire floorboard and rocker panel area is so weak that it would all just rip right out in a severe wreck. Maybe I should do more like a 6pt so it has more attachment points to spread the pressure to more areas.

The only thing is this is my daily driver not a race car. I hate to have a cage and all that in it and I really wanted to keep the back seats functional.

they never were functional unless you have a 1 maybe 2 year old.

You could also kill three birds with one stone and fab a set of sub frame connectors. Attach the harness to the connector and also T it out and attach the seats to them.

Dont cage your daily. I have a 6 point roll bar in my RX3, and getting in and out isnt too fun. Every time I get out, people get a great shot of my butt crack. Mine was welded to the floor, with the plates right in front of the brace that goes across the floor behind the seat. That makes you have to mount the seat really close to the steering wheel. I'm 6'1 and thats no fun. Just attatch the lap belt portion of it to the factory bolt holes and call it good. Are you trying to figure out a shoulder strap?

For the most part yes, I have aftermarket seats so there is no shoulder strap because the stock one attaches to the seat. I was wanting to just go with some type of aftermarket harness belt but I really dont want to install a cage in it. I thought about making a bar that runs behind the back seat to attach to but there isnt much of anything back there with strength that appears sufficient in a major crash.

I was just wondering what others have done about the safety belt system....if anything

m

mabey a 4 point bar would be good.,
like two to the floor behind the seats and two to the rear strut towers over the rear seats would that work?

then the angle for the belts would be straight and proper for a crash.

you are having the same problem as me but in my BAJA. it is hard to find good mounting locations with thick steel. I might have to make brackets and just use longer pieces. I will be putting a cage in later just need belts for now. good luck.
