when is a coil not the right coil.

The book on the RX3 says the leading and trailing coils are not interchangable. But does not say what the difference is.s this a Mazda thing? wht cant I use two coils from the parts store? What is the difference? I am quite sure that one coil is not working well as the the engine feels and sounds like only one rotor is working all the time. Bob
