The Visable Wankel Model.

Check out what my Wife got me today! Its an old Wankel Model.
Only date I could find on it was 71.
The box is kind of in rough shape, but it looks like all the pieces are there.
I see them go on E-bay from time to time but I have no idea how rare they are.
I can't decide if I should put it together, or save it as is in the box.
What do you guys think?

I have one of those somewhere in my basement from years ago. It is only partially assembled cause the quality of the kit was very poor and some of the parts just wouldnt fit together, so I gave up on it. Maybe it would be best to leave it in the box.

Yeah i've left mine in the box also....from what i've heard, even the newer version of this kit doesn't fit together too well and most people find that once assembled the unit won't turn as it should.

My father bought me one of those kits when I was a kid - that brings back memories.

Thats what I was thinking.
I will do my best to get it together when I have time. I would really enjoy a completed model more than a model in an ugly box. It may be rare and all, but still...

I have a Visible Mazda Rotary Engine model in the box. Got the block assembled but had to stop due to a missing tiny screw. Just couldn't be bothered to track another down. Guess I should get on that and finally complete the model after about 8 years of it sitting on the basement floor...

i have a couple of the entex 1/5 scale see thru wankel(same as re badged minicraft up there)

like many i have attempted to build it up.the gears in the gearbox are all s*&t, when you assemble it,it locks right up as made completly wrong IT will NEVER spin. i had to cut a whole lot of the teeth off one plastic gear part to get it to rotate.

then when you get to the rotors and housings construction, the rotors are too big and bind up against the housing at its narrowest part. i tried using a heat gun and flexing out the housings at this area.no luck. i read somewhere to correct method is to shave off the 3 corners where the apex seals would sit .
maybe NSU had some input on designing this fake model LOL

this is why you see many on ebay unfinished at the housing construction stage LOL

i have no experiance with the renewel or the other orange/grey coloured brand however.

a shame really as if it works as the box says...flashing lights, rotating rotors it would be hellishly cool ;(
i myself have 1 fully sealed and one complete opened one i will build as a display only.

Just checked the box I have and yes indeed, the rotors do bind. But it still rotates, so I think if I chuck it on a drill and rotate it slowly, they will wear into place. Guess next time I'm at the fastener store I'll pick up that tiny screw I'm missing.

I think I can find them at the local fastener store for under $0.05.
