Transmission swap, rx7 into rx2

Has anybody put a 5 speed manual from a 1st gen rx7 into an pre 1974 automatic rx2/3 chassis? What are the tricks, tips or anything to prepare myself for.

Thanks in advance

What year first gen is the trans?

1979-1980 = Direct fit
1981-1983 = I believe the shifter needs to be shotened.
1984-1985 = Shifter needs to be shotened

Awesome I have both a 79 and 82 chassis sitting around. I was gonna try the 79 trans first but now that I know it's going to work I'm excited!

I have 85 GSLSE Trans in my Rx2 that was born as an automatic. It was installed before I got it though. Instead of shortening the shifter location, they trimmed the sheet metal for it to fit.

I would prefer to modify the trans. But it's an option. Other than that. They go right in.

Seems like you guys have been in the old school rotary game for awhile. This is my first non-RX7 and its a complete rebuild from ground up essentially, Is there any more easily transferable parts from 1st gen 7s in say the Suspension and Brake Department? Or where do you get your components from?
Thanks
Shea

Get your wallet ready to spend money over in Australia.... Most of the parts you need can be found there. They arent cheap!! Plus some people wont ship over sea...

Curious to see your RX2..... You should post some pictures of it. I've owned 6 RX2 so I been around them a while.

What year is your engine? If it's an original twin dizzy 12a the Rx7 tranny will not bolt up.
