Transmission swap question.

I am working on a 74 REPU. It doesn't have a motor but I have an injected 13B and tranny from a 91 RX-7 and a carbureted 12A from a 79. For simplicity and money sake, I was hoping to put the 12A in it. My question is: will the transmission from the injected 13B bolt up to the carbureted 12A? I will swap the motors later, I just don't have the funds to do a conversion at the moment. Thanks guys!

Yes it will. Probably won't come close to lining the shift lever up with the stock shifter hole on the floor though.

Tranny should bolt to the engine just fine. The shifter is comes up to far back so you might have to trim the hole in your floor a bit or do the shifter mod...

He is going to use a 12-a which is shorter than a 13-b so it may work if he install the motor and tranny forward (no shortening of remote shifter and enlarging the shifter hole on the floor) BUT he may need a longer driveshaft. I never seen or know anyone with a 12-a on a REPU.

Here is what you should do, for now. Do you have access to the 12A tranny? Install the 12A tranny. It will bolt in with little effort. The trans crossmember can be slotted. Been there, done it twice. The shifter will line up. The driveshaft can stay stock.

Install the 13B and swap a carb on it.

If you must install the 12A, get some 1/4" aluminum plate and cut out three rectangles to make a 3/4" spacer and get some longer bolts to install the front mount bar on the front cover spaced appropriately for the shorter 12A to align with the stock motor mount studs(you want 20mm but 3/4" will work fine).

That's okay, there was a Toyota 20R in it before and the shifter hole is all kinds of torn up :/

Since there was a 20R in it, which I should have mentioned in the original post, I have to fabricate new mounts for it anyway. So that isn't a problem. And if I need a new driveshaft made, it won't be much of a problem.

Unfortunately I only have the 13b tranny.

Wait, you can do that?

I'm going to have to have new mounts fabricated anyway because of the last motor that was in it. A hole was also already cut in the cab to accommodate it, so I have to deal with that regardless.

It would be ideal if I could swap a carb onto the currently-injected 13B and mount it onto the 12A tranny. I'll look into that.

Non-turbo 13B's are 6-port, correct? Is this the kind of system I will need to change from injected to carbureted?:

Part# C-WEBER-6P86-92 at Weber and Side Draft Parts

Is there any other carburetor conversions one can perform, or is this pretty much the way to go?

Thats with a 45 dcoe which doesnt leave you any room for improvement. So get the upper intake but get a 48 dco somewhere else
