Found this exeptional RX-4 wagon at a local wrecking yard. This car is 99% rust free and has three small door dings on the entire body! The seats are not torn and even the carpet is in good shape as well as the doors pannels tec. There are a couple of dash pieces missing. Thats it! The car is complete right down to the four port 13B motor and four speed manual. The mileage shown on the odometer...53K Asked if the yard would sell it. Nope..only parts. These are so rare, I hate to see another go to the crusher especially one that only need a motor rebuild.
OMG..
I need to make a trip to your neck the woods sometime.
You could take me around to all these cool looking wrecking yards.
I know were their is one just sitting in a wrecking yard also. But it has the nice front bumpers on it.

Why do people send cars like that to the junk yard? I alwasy envision some scenario where it was an old dude's pride and joy, and when he died the jealous wife sent the car off to it's death.

Most multi-make salvage yard owners are not car enthusiasts.
That car is straight enough and complete enough that someone would probably pay a grand for it at least. If you walked into the yard office with 10 Benjamins in your fist they'd be quite stupid to say no.

Will try to at least talk to the manager of the place. I had only talked to the cashier and she probably was just giving the company policy. The Rx-4s are not really worth that much now, but I think that any pre Rx-7 rotary car or truck will only increase in value as long as there is an interest in the rotary engine. With Mazda selling the Rx-8 and maybe other rotary engine cars in the future, I think the interest will maintain or even increase. I know of a Rx2 on ebay (not running) was just sold for $6000. Not that this Rx-4 would be worth anything like that but maybe someday in the future. 5 years ago that Rx-2 would barely fetch $500 but today is a whole different story. The thing that so great about this car is that it needs so little. Though not a 2 door coupe, the absolute utility of the thing makes it so versatile. You fold the back seat down and you can haul loads of stuff. The engine bay is really large allowing any number of upgrades to the engine without any room issues. When was the last time you saw a RX-4 wagon running around? The shear novelty of the thing would be worth a few thousand dollars in restoration. Would anyone be interested in this car?

Okay, I'm going to share one of my secret weapons for bargaining on old rotary cars:
You tell the guy who owns it; "The good news is that the only person even remotely interested in this car is talking to you now. The bad news is that I don't pay squat for these cars, as people just usually give them to me for free ."
