T2 trany in RX3

Is there any way to fit the T2 trany in a 3 with out cutting the transmission tunnel? Also Is'snt there a write up on how to convert the rx3 tail shaft to fit the t2 tranny? I've done a search on the topic but I couldnt find the tread.

You'll will need a custom drive shaft, I got mine for 250$. Not sure the differnce between rx-2 and rx-3 tranny tunnel, all I did for my rx-2 was make a spacer for the tranny mount back about 5".

Yeah move the shifter up 4in works perfect. It's not that hard to do. And the tailshaft you will need the front section from a turbo because the splines are different http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mazda...spagenameZWDVW PM me if you have any questions.

The shifter housing has 4 bolts that hold it in place if you measure center hole to center hole you will get 4.01xx inches so 4in it is close enough. Cut the front section of the shifter housing so you will be left with the 2 rear mounting holes. You will have to to grind one side of the actual transmission where the old mounts are and remove the dowell pin that's towards the rear of the transmission. Now it you take the inspection cover off the shifter section you will see where the shifter goes down into. That small piece/collar that the shifter goes into is on the shaft. Well you have your measurement 4in you are going to move that collare exactly 4in forward. There is a locking pin that you need to knock out then measure center hole to center mark where you will drill the new hole for the locking pin. Make sure it is centered and straight and aligned with the old hole and drill a new hole for the locking pin. Place the collar and put the locking pin into it's new position 4in forwards and cut the remainder off. Replace the tailshaft onto the transmission. Yes you will need to remove the tailshaft and to make things easier on you make sure it is in Neutral position when you take it off.

Ah nice, I'll give this a try this weekend. I'll call you if I have any more question.

Thanks

Sorry bro but I'm computer illiterate and I don't have a digital, need to get one. But if you take the shifter housing apart and from the info I have given you can figure it out it's not that difficult. Also for those that say you have to use a Turbo flywheel when you use a Turbo transmission that's nonsense. All you have to do is keep your flywheel and pressure plate but you need to get a clutch disc made it will be 225mm by whatever the turbo spline input spline is. The input spline of a turbo transmission is different than a N/A. Racing beat sells them but they only come with solid pucks. I don't mind them on the streets but it's a bit jerky for others. The only problem is starter alignment you need the n/a starter. First you will have to grind the inside portion of the bellhousing where the starter in. You know you have grinded enough when you mount the lower ear of the starter to the original position and the top ear is moved inboard and you can clearly see the bolt hole for that top ear. Next to put the long bolt all the way through and let the top ear of the starter rest on that bolt. Put a big washer on it to hold it down and you are done. Hope this info helps some of you that want to do a Turbo transmission swap. Good luck.

Glad I could help you out. Take a shot of where the shifters position is in the car now that it is moved up 4in. Hopefully you didn't have to chop up that tunnel too much. Looks great.

heres what it look like, just needed to trim the shifter hole about 2", it doest look too bad compare to where it would have been 4" back. I left the front motor mount alone so its in the right two hole. The tranny tunnel needed some work but not a big deal, I'll post some pictures later if anybody cares

Looks good! Yeah I hate it when they mount the 13B forward it just cramps everthing up front. My first RX3 was like that and just bugged the hell out of me. Keep up the good work and drive that car down to my house when you get it done so I can check it out.

looks to me like this could have been taken even farther by cutting the shifter housing
and welding it back together, this would allow the use of the TII trani with out cutting
the car at all.

If FB parts are compatible with T2 parts, you could use an FB shifter housing and it would locate the shifter a little further forward eliminating the need to cut the car. I didn't need to cut anything in an RX-4 when I moved the shifter forward on an '81-'83 FB tranny.
