Sweet!

Must be a newer video, or one I just overlooked on Jay's site. He has one or two others that touch on the RE5, but they were really short clips. Nice to see a longer video devoted just to the bike. I never have met Tim, but have heard his name a few times from Sam when I visit- very neat!

Neal.

If this post is to keep track of rotary powered motor bike's...I know of a guy named Fred here in Calgary who owns a nice running RE5. I myself owned 1 of the 5 Sachs Hercules rotary bikes here in Calgary.

Re

I'm travelling now- I'll get back to you as soon as I'm back on base in Afganistan. That might be as long as a week from now. Sorry for the delay.

Let me know when you are back.

That's fine. It'll give me a chance to post some pictures and a better description.

i was going to purchase one not long ago off ebay. There we 3 for sale, but non of them ran. I thought of having one as a nice project to mess around with. Are you able to find motor parts still?

I messed with my RE5 a bit today.

I haven't chased any parts for a long time. It last ran in 1998. The motor as far as I know hasn't been opened since new.

I messed with it today. The good news - it has compression all the way around. The bad news - I don't have spark. I'll need to do a debug on the CDI. Hopefully it is just a wiring/ground issue and not a CDI box issue.

Sam has pretty much everything, everything that cannot be had new he has used and spec'd out. I haven't asked him about internal engine parts, Suzuki never sold rebuild parts. Only complete engines were available and Sam had those until a year or so ago he finally sold the last one. I know he has done some rebuilds but I don't really have much information on that. At any rate, if there is anything you need that is the first place to look. If its not listed on his web page give them a call or an email.

It runs!

Woohoo! It starts and runs. Sounds good. The problem was with the points. I cleaned them, put some oil in the spark plug hole and it started right up. I used some 32:1 gas mix and it sounds the same as it did before.

Tomorrow I'll start the documentation and post pix and a good writeup.

I noticed that this post has a lot of views. Slonishku/Alex got me started on this. If you haven't checked his blog, please do:

He is doing some very good work in Afghanistan.

Pix of my RE5

Below is a picture of my RE5.

You can also find a video of it running on youtube here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0N0wWD-jK2Q

Next I will post it for sale in the classified area. There I'll put all the good and bad as well as more pix. Does anyone have a suggestion as to which sub-forum to post it? Thanks.

Looks a bit rough but probably just the missing seat, it looks pretty complete and sounds like it runs good.

Oh, and post it in old school and other rotary for sale

Description of my RE5

Tom,
Yes, rough. No bragging rights on how pretty this is. The seat cushion and seat cover are gone.

I posted this in the old school and other rotary for sale. It is awaiting approval. It has a good description and some more pictures.

Alex,
When you are back on base, check this out. I'll wait for you. PM me regardless. I listed it OBO, don't be afraid to shoot me an offer.
