Dallen, great story! How well did the REPU tow the racecar? I want to try it with mine but I'm concerned the REPU brakes are not up to the task. How did it handle the hills and twisty roads when towing?

Any pictures to share?

Thanks,
Brad

Nice story from Dallen, my friend had a GT3 RX3 that would hit 155 on the straights.

But a LAVENDER RX4 coupe? Oh, the humanity!

wow, I figured it would be gone by now. I'll let a few friends know about it.

It'll take me a week or so to get all the parts together to even be able to list an eBay auction, so you've got a little time.

Note: I will not ship the car, someone will have to come and get it. For 2k it's a helluva deal.

The repu pulled wth no problems. I had a twin axle trailer that balanced the load well and an aftermarket step bumper that was rated to 10,000 lb. towing. (extra bumper braces were welded to the frame.) I put 1000 lb helper coil springs on the rear to keep it from sagging. (JC Whitney) The trailer had electric brakes, which let me stop as easily loaded as empty. (The cab brake module was from JC Whitney) The entire trailer with car weighed about 4000 lbs and had a tongue weight of about 300 lbs. I carried a spare set of wheels with tires,(2 for dry track and 4 for wet track.) tools and a few spare parts in the truck bed, protected by an aluminum cap. The handling was no problem, but I never pulled it in mountains. I lived near the NH line in MA and it was all pretty much flat lands from my house to NH and CT. Like any vehicle with a trailer, I had to take curves a little slower, but it didn't plow or get loose. The repu's 13b and 4 spd stick had plenty of power for the job and I never had any clutch problems with the stock clutch. I had the stock rims and tires like I see in your truck's pict and they did the job quite well.

I'm not sure what Mazda called the color of my 4, (it was a factory color) but it was a light purple (lavender)with white interior that my at the time wife spotted on the showroom floor and had to have. (IIRC it had a sticker of around $4000.) It had the dealer installed A/C and 3 spd automatic tranny, but its 13b could keep up with almost anything on the highway.

Looks like a sweet car. Does it run enough to drive it somewhere or is it going to have to be trailered?

Nice Paintjob... I bought a 91 fc RHD Front clip from someone once that had a rx3, and some kinda stationwagon rotary engine car. It was nice as hell. 18" deep dish (looked like bbs.. not sure though) rims. Damn nice.

Props to the person who buys this.

Damn man, if you were in Australia instead of Oregon I'd buy that off you within a day... I'm having a hard time trying to find an RX3 coupe over here that isn't rediculously expensive.

The RX3 is still for sale.
Let me reiterate that this is a PROJECT, the car needs to be plumbed and wired, the interior needs to be installed, brakes need to be done, etc. There is a LOT of work needed to get it on the road, although MOST all the parts to finish it are included.
Also, whoever wants the car will have to come and get it as I'm not going to ship the car.
If the car isn't sold by the first of the year I'm going to put it on eBay. The price of $2000 is a special price for forum members, if it goes on eBay it'll probably go much higher.

The RX3 is still for sale. Had lots of e-mails and lots of people saying they wish they were closer, had the dough, etc. but no one has even come up here to check it out. If it doesn't sell in the next couple of weeks, it goes on eBay.

This isn't a project for just anybody. The tank and fuel lines need to be installed, the engine wiring harness needs to be installed, there is a LOT of work to finish the car.
But the components that I collected (over several years) are all excellent.
The dash is the finest you could ever hope to see, it looks practically brand-new.
The rest of the interior is kinda marginal, I have a full white interior w/ headliner but the seats are mismatched. The passenger seat is a pretty nice black RX3 seat, but I think the driver's seat is a beige RX4 unit, I can't remember at the moment.
I've got a few different seats out in my storage shed to pick from anyway.
The body is straight and rust-free and was seam-welded for added rigidity, and the car has been painted the original "sunrise red" with Du Pont Centari enamel.
The paint prep was somewhat rushed and as a result the paint job isn't as good as it could have been, although it looks decent. There is a little bit of "orange-peeliness" in some areas that is easily wet-sanded and rubbed-out. I already wet-sanded the trunk lid and a section of the right B-pillar area just to be sure that the paint was thick enough to take a good color-sanding. Any RX3 parts that are too big for me to eBay will go with the car. There are a couple of doors, a hood or two, maybe a front fender (maybe), TWO fuel tanks,
there may be an extra pair of front struts, but I'm not sure if I still have those.
Anyway, the car is a terrific deal for someone with enough energy and mechanical ability to finish it the way it should be.

I'm selling the car because I have 7 cars ('72 RX3, '74 RX4, '80 RX7, and 4 Fiestas) and I'm trying to get it down to 4.
