well i am not too happy with the stock seat. they dont appear to have enough grip for the kind of spirited driving i plan on doing. so what seat do you have in your duece, or have had in you car. i will probably have to custom mount to the stock seat mounts. but anyone have an easier fit with some good seats. it would be sweet for them to kinda match the interior, but not a huge concern. I am gonna try to put in some integra seats, i would prefer some 2nd gen rx7 seats though. let me know what you guys ahve heard/think. lates matt22

 

Those suspension seats are pretty nifty. You can bottom out your car's suspension and not bottom the springs in yoru seat out (though it might hurt reguardless)... no springs, no bottom just some fabric tied to posts on either side. (in a no piston car!)

I think all rally cars have them because of they driving they do.

However, they're expensive and you could throw a cover over them or have them customized.

I suggest for any seat just hit up ebay.

 

I`m using Turbo II seats in my first gen. Great seats, grippy fabric, and best of all, they match the interior to some extent. Cheap to, i paid about 200 dollars for a set of good ones, and that was in Norway! Plus, the fit most of the original mounts in old Mazdas, as were a straight fit in my RX!

 

ya i had some 2nd gen seats in a first gen i had. i guess i will jsut have to get a set and see if they will work.

I've got corbeaus's...using corbeau Rx3 brackets.....just have to redrill the rear holes inward a bit. Easy, secure, and comfy.

 

so can you still get those brackets then? post a pics of yours if you can.
those leather seats were nice but i couldnt get them, a bit pricey for me.

From what I remember, they only sell the brackets if you buy their seats....they may have changed their policy, but that's what I got through my retailer. I'll get pics up asap.

 

I was in that same boat, didn't like the stock seats much. I have Integra seats in my RX-2 and they are pretty good. I used the sliders from the stock seats and fabbed up some spacers for the rear mount. It fit perfectly. I know it doesn't match, but since I'm the only one driving it, how cares! heehee. Actually I'll probably get the seats re-done or the interior, not sure but I'm in no hurry.

Okay maybe the use of the words "fabbed" and "spacers" made you think it was something special when actually it isn't. heehee!

Its really a piece of cake, here's what I did. Basically if you look at the bottom of the seat, the sliders from the stock seats are shorter than the bolt holes on the Integra seats (these are from a 90 Integra). On one side of the seat you have bolt holes on the bottom, when you bolt up the front of the slider the rear part is short about 2 inches or so. I took a piece of metal (aluminum I think) attached the slider to it and bolted the extended piece to the seat. On the other side, the bolt holes are on the side. So for the front I bolted an "L" bracket to the seat and then attached the slider to the "L" bracket. The rear is slightly more tricky. The bolt hole on the side is nowhere near where the rear of the slider is but there is a hole on the bottom where you would think a bolt would go, but its just a hole. Anyway, I took another 2 to 3 inch piece of metal, attached the slider to it and bolted it to the hole. the tricky part is trying to hold a nut in place to bolt to since you have to squeeze your hand in there. After that, make sure the center to center of each of the sliders are 16.5 inches apart. then bingo bango bongo, it drops right in. Okay sounds simple enough but there is one catch, there is always a catch. when you remove the sliders from the Integra seat you also remove one side of the hinge for the back of the seat. Still not really a problem, just cut that part off, straight to the bottom. The bottom will bolt back into the original hole. Done.

Yea, 97 is a differnt gen so the seats might be different but then again they may be similar. In any case. I'll pull the seats this weekend and take some pix. You might find them useful or not.

Oki doki, pulled the passenger seat out so you see what i did. It is basically the same for the driver's seat.

This is the easiest part.

 

Here is the pic of the hinge thingy cutoff from the Integra slider. As you can see the RX-2 slider is about an inches and a half too short.

 

Here is what I used to extend the slider. You will need two. The second for the other side just slightly longer and I'll explain later.

 

Here it is together.

 

The other side has a slight bit more difficulty but still a piece of cake. I mentioned previously that the mounting holes for the sliders are on the side. This side would be closest to the door (on either driver or passenger seat). I used this L bracket to mount the front of the slider to. I goofed on this bracket and drilled an extra hole. I got confused and forgot I was looking at it upside down.

 

Here it is attached. As you can see the factory mounting hole is farther back than where the front of the slider needs to be attached, hence the funky wide L bracket. Just make sure the front mounting points are lined up and 16.5 inches apart. The stock Intgra sliders are more narrow so looking at the L bracket again you'll notice the holes really wide on one side to allow for some fine tuning before finally tightening it down.

 

Now measure 16.5 inches from the other slider, you have to extend the rear part of the slider to the hole at the bottom of the seat. As I mentioned, there are no threads in this hole. So you will have to squeeze you hand underneather to hold the nut into place. As you've probably noticed the extension piece is at an angle. Again because the seats are narrower and that hole is really the only viable place to mount to anyway.

One last check to make sure the centers of the sliders are 16.5 inches apart, then tighten evey thing down. Then line up the front of the sliders ... bingo bango bongo, drop right in.

 

Here is the finished product about 3 hours later. All done with hand tools - drill, dremel (you'll go through several cutting discs), socket set and hammer. Gotta have a hammer in there somewhere. Actually I used the handle of the hammer under the seat to prop up the bottom so that I could get my hand in there for that last nut/bolt. Hope that helps, good luck.

My bro had a pair of recaro's in his 2. Nice but we cant fully shut the doors. They are just too bulky. He ended up re-upholstering his stock seats.

BTW, where in Socal are ya.

 

I want to try fitting different seats in mine, preferrably something lighter as the stock '2 ones are super heavy.
