warwickben my mate, i sold the kart a while ago. i've got a couple pics on another computer. what i did though, was i had 2 6'' diameter pulleys mounted to the axle, and a 2'' diameter pulley mounted to the e-shaft. the 2 pulleys were for v-belts, and the single pulley on the motor had to v-belt grooves cut out that matched the width between the 2 pulleys. i used 2 industrial v-belts, that were a bit too big. no worries though, this way i could disegage the power from the wheels. i had a long steel handle mounted up by the wheel for me to grab, connecting some linkage which moved a belt tensioner ( i used 2 mopar idler pulleys mounted on the same shaft) which took the slack outta the belts. so once i dropped the lever, i'd start moving, just like slipping in the clutch. riding lawn mowers work EXACTLY like this. if its unclear i could retrieve the pictures for you in about a week, or draw up a diagram as to how it worked!

i had a idea from your post as how you did it. i wasn't sure on you gas break clutch setup. i was thinking of mounting a cable on the steering wheel with a brake handle like a on a bike for gass. have a pedal for brakes and have a pedal for clutch but have it so i have to press on the clutch pedal to disengage it so to be at a dead stop i press on both pedals and release the gas. my first plan was to find a motor small enough for one of those pocket rockets but i couldn't figure out how to get power to the rear wheel. then i was like id rather have a go kart lol. iam 22 and love toys still .

why did you deiced to sell if you dont mind me asking.

this plan is along way off first i need to finish my first gen. then find a motor for this.

The W2000 motor had a large fan pushing cooling air thru the fins,plus it was oriented to face forward not sideways like your gocart. I believe you shouldn't have cooling problems if you have the same fan assembly!.You are getting good speed also....great project.

hey all- gearheadeh- yea i've got pretty much the same fan- the cart body was all cut up to allow the most air to be pulled in. overall, no cooling problems unless i REALLY cranked the rpms for a while.

warwickben- sorry about the long time to reply lol. several reasons as to the sale of it- first i moved (had it at my parents house) to go to school, so i would never drive it. and i left my rx-7 there, and figured it needed the garage space more than the cart. also, i never really had anywhere to drive it with out getting harassed by police/neighbors. so i sold the cart with its origanal honda engine. i still have both of my 303's though!! i'm 20 & going for a mechanical engineering degree, so hopefully once i have more time, i'll build up something sick. anyway keep up the projects my friend

thanks for the info. i just got the new northern catalog.there selling a go kart full roll cage for under 400 bucks. it has every thing but a motor. so iam gonna probly get it one of these days if i ever find a motor for it.

KART FINALLY DRIVES! clocked at 50mph (not in this vid, i'd say 35 in the vid) by my buddy in his 1st gen, and it was only at about 4000 rpm... haha it should hit 70-80... fun as hell! enjoy it, its been a LONG project for me, and i'm finally able to enjoy all the hard work... hope you all like it

Hi Landon,
Kind of a long shot but, next time you are in Tampa stop by the Malibu Grand Prix center, and see if there are still any of the older guys out there in the maintenance shed, up until the late 80's they use to run the Sachs in the big cars before Rotex came out with the inline 440, you might be able to pick their brain... Oh and I never saw them have any problems running in the middle of summer all day and night, and remember it is an aircooled engine so it needs to be a little richer for cooling...

GORacing- hey i was there about a year & a half ago, and they didn't even have any of the big cars period! someone did tell me about them being rotary though at a meet at ftdesoto. man i'd love to find someone who has the info though! i live right by usf, so this is only but a stones throw away, i may have to ride over there soon! do you have any more info about it? thanks!

i honestly think the Aixro company got their tooling from sachs- as that engine is 294/295cc, the same as one of the sachs motors- the last sachs motor used in snowmobiles, making it sachs most "advanced" engine. it only made around 20 hp, and was a 2 stroke... if you compare the internals, they're both VERY similar. Obviously Aixro REALLY did their homework when it comes to engineering- as they managed to take the same basic designs from the 70s which made around 20 hp as i said, convert to 4 stroke, as well as increase power to 49hp, and best of all, sell it! mad props. thanks for the pictures though, i always love technical stuff like that!

WANTED. Looking for a broken condition engine for my
students. Engine only, not gearbox. It should be more
or less with all parts; engine parts can be out of
tollerance or damaged.
Sachs KM24 or 914 can be nice, but any other brend
wankel, single o twin rotor, is OK.

Ok, found some info in my archives (info packrat)... found a couple web sites for the accessories like carb, and trans suppliers that still list parts, here is probably the most likely http://www.outdoordistributors.com/T...on_Search.html, the trans is basically a C.V.T. golf cart setup... see attached for more info, oh and a correction, I stated that MPG replaced the Sachs with a Rotex in-line 440 and it is actually a Kawasaki in-line twin 440cc with the same horsepower and torque numbers...

Not to nit pick but I don't think that mixing fuel and oil inorder to get the required lubrication makes it a 2 STROKE, just "like" a 2 STROKE !.

no i know- sachs said they were in order for people to remeber to mix the gas- had they called it say, a "4stroke that needs premix" the average person would not have understood, and most of the motors would have burnt out quickly. it still has the same number of ignitions per e-shaft revolution, except that all lubrication/cooling comes from premixed (2 cycle) oil in with the gas. hope that makes sense?
