Due to a malfunction in someone's brain, my favorite place in the whole world to go is down for who knows what reason. I hope you RX-7 guys will humor a few of us for a little while so we can vent our frustrations.

Seems that (I'm guessing at this) someone made a decision to do something to the database and didn't know what they were doing. I say that because anyone that works on websites or manages business know:

1. To make changes you must have a B/U
2. You should let the users know maintenance will be performed
3. Test before you do something major
4. If the site is going down, PUT A FREEKING TEMPORARY PAGE UP FOR THE HOME PAGE!
5. If you don't know what you are doing then don't #&%# with anything.

It would be VERY simple just to put up a page stating what the problem is and let everyone know what to expect and when. Some of us have grown very dependent on it for reasons beyond just casual communications. We are planning things and some need help with their cars. Some of us are just plain addicted and need a fix.

 

I understand and can for obvious reasons relate to your dismay. However, might I point out that we do not pay for their services, nor are we required to swear allegiance to the webmasters in any way, therefore we are relegated to the beggars can't be choosers catagory and must show due restraint and patience while waiting for them to return us to our bliss that is our own forum.

Don't worry about OT, this is important.

March 19-20 at Road Atlanta about 12 of us will be at the NASA event. It's gonna be a blast. I will be the only one not on the track as I will be videoing and shooting stills for just for us who participate. I’m thinking of making it something of a documentary with video from the night before with prep of cars in the parking lot, in car videos, and strategic location videos. It's gonna be a hoot. You need to come join us. When we get our site back up I'll send you the link to our thread.

 

I have now heard form someone of knowledge of the rx8club site and have enough understanding that I will be patient. My first thoughts were a bit aggressive under the circumstances and I hope we are back up soon.

 

I don't know if my car will be back from the body shop or not by then. It all depends on when Palisades Insurance in New Jersey quits trying to screw me over on my claim. Over 1 month later and still no settlement offer other than the lowball estimate their adjuster gave. Oh well, I am just shy of retaining a lawyer and suing them. If I do make it to Road Atlanta it will be as a spectator, I do not race my 8.

 

So, what are you not saying SilverEIGHT? While I agree the site is free to us, the advertisers are footing the bill. What about them?

I'm not running either but I could use a hand with taking pics and enjoying watching the guys run. I hate it that you are having so much trouble with the insurance. That's a real bummer. Keep me posted.

It was not me that said anything about it being for free. I agree with you, the advertisers are paying and if I were a paying customer I would want some answers. YAHOO & GOOGLE are free to its users but the advertisers pay. If they were going down for maintenance I'm sure they would inform the public. I stick by my premise that a site should be properly maintained and that a page informing us of site problems would be appropriate. However this may not be an option. I want the site back up as much as I want my 8 back from the shop and that's bad! There seems to be communication on the 8 sight now and I would suggest that maybe we can pick up details there. It's speratic but occasionally I can get in. Try this thread:

i've heard what's up too and it's not something that i like hearing. In fact, it's quite annoying. Hopefully it'll be fixed sometime this week but somehow, I doubt it.
