RX8 Buyback

Here's the scoop:

Moderators, I realize this is not a "3rd Gen" subject, but it is of great interest to many 3rd gen owners. Please don't move this thread.

They will refund the full price you paid plus tag and tax.

If you keep it, you get $500, lifetime maintainance.

After all its only a difference of about 10-14RWHP. Id keep it, find out what they changed due to emissions and get that 10HP back.

Great Place to Hide a Thread!

Sure fine, dump this thread in a place that very few members go to.

In my mind moderators can take a "by the book" approach in moving threads or they can be more "open minded" about how thread location impacts the dissemination of information on popular subjects.

I asked please not to move this thread because of the value this information has to all members.

I know, I shouldn't be telling a cop how to do his job.

Lounge would be a better place for what is an important discussion about Mazda's HP ratings...

the third gen section should be moved to the lounge. compared to the single turbo forum or the rotary performance sections the third gen section is like kindergarten recess.

Mazda officials say after modifying the car’s powertrain control module to meet required federal emissions standards, the RX-8 with manual transmission is producing 238 hp, down from the promised 247 hp, while the automatic- trans model is down 10 hp to 197 hp. Mazda says the drop in power doesn’t affect the car’s 0-to-60-mph times, however.
In other words, Mazda fibbed about the hp to make her look more appealing, and recent dyno runs show the 8 motor is underperforming to factory hp figures.

"Doesn't affect 0-60 times" HA

Unfortunate but this stuff happens. IF I owned an 8, I wouldn't return it. That $500 + free maintenance for 4 years is very appealing!!!!

Might be time for a Rx8 section here, or is that what http://rx8forum.com/ is for?

Mazda has a company histoy of overquoting horsepower numbers before the release of a car. It has happened to several Miatas.

Lets face it, an RX-8 is NOT a replacement for the FD. It is not even close. The car dynos at sub 200 HP levels.

They are very nice cars that are better in person then in pictures. I got to sit in two this past week and I like them. They are quite capable cars and every RX-8 owner that I have talked to loves it. Something has to be said about that.

I kinda wondered why this thread was here, myself.
Then I realized that the RX8 is of course an "other rotary" car.
Maybe we need a dedicated RX8 board?
Then we could keep this board "old-school".
