Cool Rx3 SP DAILY DRIVER (really)

Hey guys,

Almost finished on my 77 Sp and thought I would post a few pic's....

Yes I do drive it to work almost everyday(68K orig. miles), and yes it is my favorite color.... I might drive it to Seattle this week-end if the road are clear enough, if anybody is in the Fed. Way area.... I'll be around Seattle all week-end.... so let me know... I need an excuse to get out of the in-laws house.... (forced visitation)

I just recently started working on another 77 SP too, yes it also my favorite color. It's on the trailer......and it way low.... adj. coil-overs....

Please let me know what you guys think.

If the photo's load......

TWO different cars, one on the trailer is next in line to get refinished....

I just put the stripes on and next the interior....Although the seats are fine, I want to add a little surprise....

Unless somebody out there has a seat cover package for this color car??

Has anybody ever found the correct fabric???

the first car is almost finished.....

I'm still looking for a dash-pad...now looking for two!!
no cracks please...

Nice car reminds me of my first sp same color, as for the fabric good luck finding the right scheme. I went through a lot of shops looking for the right fabric but ended up empty handed , so I had to settle for a solid color instead, check it out.

Wink

I just picked up the material for my inserts... I actually ordered this 3 months ago...and the shop wouldn't give me the price to pick it up.....

Just looked at the reciept, it was August when I ordered this material.... I knew I should of drove down there at the first sign of a run-around...

I'm telling you these guys are not honest... they sold half the material to some other guy..... maybe thats why they were delaying giving it to me.... Anyway I won't be letting anything like that happen again...

I'll put a pic up of the swatch.....
hopefully it'll be a big enough photo be able to see...

Again, what do you guys think?

Thanks for the kewl comments...

Wow,

I can't believe that you daily drive that thing, but hey... that's just me.

I have it from reliable sources that Hemmings Motor News will soon be doing a series of articles on the collectability of early U.S. rotary cars, so the value of old school rotaries and early Gen 1 RX-7s (especially low mileage and in bone stock condition) could soon rise dramatically as collectors begin seeking out these cars for restoration. IMO, the SP is so unique it's almost like the old school version of the Plymouth Superbird. Very rare and tons of factory options that make it extremely unique. I'd drive it sparingly, but again... that's just me.

Sweet ride and good luck with your next restoration project!!

I have had so many rx3's, it would be a shame not to drive it. I do know what your saying though as a few honest mazda collectors have contacted me about it. The way I see it, many a fool drives around all day in $35K-$40K trucks, Euro-imports in the 50k-plus range...but NOBODY is driving around my town in a car like this...
Thanks for the comments regarding the superbird comparison..... A guy in this town has 4 original superbirds and yes the are all bone stock and yes I do see them driving around town... thats how I met him. He runs snow tires in the winter. I actually know a guy that has (4) 57 Cheverlet conv. (no Joke) that were each restored in the early 70's and have been parked since the tags expired.... he has a few others too......like 40 old chevy's....many convertibles

Thats the secret of the eastern washington desert.....NO HUMIDITY ......NO RUST

keep us updated on the Hemmings info.....
A guy ran the VIN on this one and said "its one of the first hundred ever produced.... " How do they get that kind of info?

Don't get me wrong.....I do drive it nearly ever day, but it's less than a mile.... once in a while I hit the freeway... just to use all the gears.... I'm very nervous about door dings or worse.... I also hate thinking it may be stolen.....not a big fan-club of rx3 guys around here... mostly Honda lovers that think I'm the weird one...

Hey guys, I'm thinking of a road trip this spring with my son....Maybe start up here in old school heaven and drive one big long trip to the other coast and upload the adventure every night from the hotels, you know, pics of the cars in front of all the landmarks we see along the way.

Maybe visit all the rotor heads in the different regions.......We'll call it "ROTARY ROAD TRIP" If its rotary powered, it's allowed...

I'm gonna see if anybody wants to sponser me... like Pepsi.... or coke... or twinkies?

maybe even a mazda only company... like one of the advertisers on this site.... I'll put the ZOOM ZOOM on my car if they'll sponser....

Oh Well, maybe we'll just go for a Vegas trip............

You could visit me on the east coast just befor the end of the world(Cape Cod,MA).I am considered the wierd one around here as I have a 74 RE/PU that I prefer to drive over my 92 Dodge, and a 79 RX-7 that I just got to replace my 83 that has rotted pretty bad.

By the way I love the car,and I am envious of the WA,OR,CA members,as they get all the cool stuff. It is a big deal around here to see someone else in a first gen let alone anything that vintage.Keep up the good work, and happy rotoring.

Spectacular car !

I have owned two SP's. Currently have one that I am in the process of turning back into a street car. What would it take to get a mold / copy of the spoilers from you?
