RX3 chassis number questions
I have recently come across a possible RX-3 coupe, but the chassis number has been cut out and replaced, now this leads me to believe its not a genuine RX3 or is possibly stolen and updated.
Could anyone possibly tell me what this chassis number says about the vehicle....
S124A - 169249
Also any tell tale signs of RX3 and 808 differences, bearing in mind it has no interior, engine or box and has been heavily modified to take a ford 9inch diff and has a 10 point rollcage jammed in there.
Thanks...

I agree, don't touch it!
The following is a list of prefix Vehicle Identification Numbers for both rotary and piston models so you will be able to check if the car was originally rotary or not. These numbers can be found on the drivers door jam and stamped on the firewall of the engine bay.
R100
M10A......for example M10A-85652 would be a complete VIN. Piston Models would begin with STA (1200 Coupe), BTA (1200 wagon and pickup). Some of the R100s I have seen at shows lately have the "STA" number which would make them actually a 1200 with rotary power added later.
RX-2
S122A Capella or RX-2 Coupe or Sedan with Rotary
SV2A Capella or 618 with 1800cc piston engine
SNA Capella or 616 with 1600cc piston engine
RX-3
S102A RX-3/Savanna with Rotary Engine
STC 808 or 818/Grand Familia with Piston engine
RX-4
LA23S RX-4 or Luce with Rotary Power (second gen)
LA2VS 929 or Luce with 1800cc Piston Power (sec gen)
VIN numbers stamped on the firewall are the most accurate as they are harder to change.

The S124A VIN number is a valid number for a RX-3.
S124AB and S124W (Wagon) is also good. Rx-3s with 10A engine are S102A and with 12A engine S124A.

Thanks Guys....
I guess the car WAS an 808 oneday then and someone has put an RX-3 chassis number on there, yeah it is on the firewall, its not a bad patchup job but if i can still pick it then im sure the registration/VIN people can.
Do RX-3 rear bumpers have a reflector in them and the 808 ones dont??
So if this naughty modification is ever discovered then the car will automatically become illegal..yes?!?
sounds too dodgy to me...
Ill leave it alone...

As the price of RX3's goes up, more 808's will be re-numbered... a big business over here as 808's out number the real deal.

The VIN you provide is from a 75 model series-II version.
The equal 808 VIN will start with STC-200???
The RX-3 had rear reflectors on the bar. The 808 didn't. The series-II RX-3 had an exhaust over temp sensor in the boot where the 808 didn't Look for the sensor, or the holes that mounted it or the wiring to suit its 2-pin plug.
The RX-3 had a 60lt tank with an "L" stamped on it. The 808 was a 45lt tank with an "S" stamped on it. can keep going but thats enough for now
